When rescuing Johansen from Society of Leopold, were you guys able to make Johansen tell you about how he found out about the sarcophagus? Persuasion 8-9 doesn't work, so I think you actually need intimidate at a high level? The only way that I was able to get the truth about how he found out where to dig for the sarcophagus (worth 2 XP) was playing a Ventrue with Dominate 3. Anyone find another way?
Also, any thoughts on who sent Johansen the letter with no return address on how to find it? Jack wouldn't have a motive to do it. The Sabbat maybe in order to try to destroy it? Who would have done it??

Well, with the persuasion of 9 you also need a perception of 4. (Or is it 5?)

As for the letter, I think Gary is behind it all. Everything that happens in the game is to his benefit.

There are 2 conditions that will get the truth out of Johansen:

1) Your total inspection feat is at least 5.
2) You are Malkavian.

If either of those is true, he'll spill it. No persuasion or intimidation is required.

I saved up some points and experimented with that conversation - I had persuasion 9 from upping it for the Giovanni mission and that didn't get success. I didn't seem to get extra info with high intimidate either. I am not surpised that it is an "inspection" related result. isn't Knox the same?

there are not many places where inspection is useful after the intial play-through - it is a shame there were not more.

can anybody clarify the Knox criteria and timing?

As far as I can tell, having Perception 3 (not sure about Inspection 3) when Knox tells you about the Kwei-Jin stalking him will allow you to see through his bull.

What you need to get the truth out of Knox:
1.) Perception 3 (Not inspection) or higher
2.) Persuasion or Intimidate 3 or higher

Thanks for the info on how to get the truth out of Johansen. I only got him to talk with Dominate 3 (Ventrue).

I still couldn't get Knox to spill the beans. From what I remember it's suficient to talk to him after you get the quest and you can see through him, but even meeting the requirements mentioned by you guys I got no results.

Trust me on this-

You need PERCEPTION 3 before you ever talk to Knox on the Asylum. If you ask him about it than get Perception 3 when you return from the quest, it's too late. You need perception to realize that "his story was a little off" (you need to select this answer when you ask him about the "asian dude". Than intimidate or persuasion to tell him that you'll do it if he tells the truth or if he doesn't tell you the truth you'll beat him up. Remember, perception (NOT inspection) 3 BEFORE you talk to him on the Asylum.

Truth out of Johansen -

I just played a non-Ventrue character and saved with some XP to spare before talking to Johansen, so I found out:
I was able to detect that he was hiding something about the dig for the sarcophagus with Perception 5. I put no points on inspection, (I think it's kind of useless) but perception 5 gives you an overall inspection feat of 5 and helps a lot with your ranged attack.
But also, I realized that you need Persuasion 9 in addition to convince him to talk about it. I usually play with Persuasion up to 8 only because level 9 is only needed for a total of 2/3 more XP points at the Giovanni mansion and the 2 XP you get from Johansen. As a Ventrue though, with Dominate 3 you'll make him tell you about how he found out where to find the sarcophagus if your perception's high enough.
Answering my own question from long ago, hehe. So there's more than just inspection need for this, you also need Persuasion 9 or Dominate 3 (wonder if Dementation 3-4 also works, I don't know).
