Backstabbing

So I've got this dinky assassin and maxed out his hide in shadows and walk silently skills right off.

Naturally, I'm having problems backstabbing.

How does one backstab the chatty critters that want to talk first?

I'm also dual-wielding -- dagger and longsword. Ist verboten? Is the dual wielding ok? Is the long sword?

I'm just looking for max backstabbage 'cause I'm lazy and I'm worried Boo might get hurt in a pitched battle.

Just have someone other than your thief talk to them first (Like Minsc) while your hiding in Shadows. Once he goes red you can sneak up to him and WACK. Dual wielding is fine, just make sure you have the weapon that does more damage in your main hand.

My experience with Valygar is that he is able to backstab while dual wielding, but the backstab will be as if he was single wielding, or in other words, as if there was no weapon in his off hand. For example, if he has a dagger in his main hand, and Celestial Fury in his off hand, the backstab attack will occur only with the dagger, rather than both the dagger and Celestial Fury. After the backstab is over, he goes back to regular dual wielding mode.

By the way, I didn't notice this until recently, but if you switch to the character's info. screen while the character is in stealth mode, the character's THACO will be much lower than his/her regular THACO. Stealth gives at least a +3 bonus to THACO, it seems.

Yep, it's a +4 bonus to hit while hidden. This would normally also apply while you're invisible.

Would that bonus also apply to improved invisible ("shimmering") characters? Would be a nice extra for, uh... Fighter-Mages.
