Temple of Seasons [ SPOILER ALERT ]

I finished the first season room and picked up alot of hides and there were two doors showing. I rested and then did the following: [ highlight to see ]
Spoiler
I had my Paladin walk straight ahead to the across from the entrances. The door was locked when I clicked on it which did seem a little odd. My Paladin then proceeded to unlock the door and open it. I was wondering where the next pedestal and book were. I then approached the statue in the middle and clicked on it like you do when you first enter the Temple (it was a Bard statue if I remember right). I then got this cut scene of my character getting the second of the five blessings and something about having completed the Temple of Seasons test.

Wait a minute all I did was Winter and even where I live there are four definite seasons. I had noticed some sarcophaguses on my right when entering the room along with treasure chests. I had Neeshka disable the traps and open the chests. I got some nice goodies and was wondering where the other three seasons went. I noticed on my minimap that there was a short hall to the left so I opened the door got my party ready for whaterver Fall was going to throw at me. I read the book on the pedestal and turned the final page to activate what I later learned was an attack by Slyphs only to have say I completed the Seasons test.

I was cheated out of a bunch of experience and possible goodies.

Uh Uh, No way!! I am not buying that. I reloaded the save just before I entered the Temple got all the exp and goodies plus the blessing.

The thing is that my Paladin had only one [ 1 ] point in the Open Lock skill from early in the game and he unlocked the door to the Temples Statue room. He still has only one point in that skill and he and Neeshka make a good team. She disables traps and goes on to the next and my Paladin has rarely failed to unlock a lock is right behind her unlocking and collecting treasure. One point in a few of the skills is definitely a point well spent and a second point should go into Heal so you can use the far more abundant Heal Kits that you find.
End of Spoiler.

Heh, that's odd. Are you patched all the way to 1.04? That's really strange because that lock should have a DC = 100 (like all the ones you are not supposed to go into) and you unlocked it with an unlock skill of a couple at most (I don't know what your DEX mod is, but with a pally I can't imagine it's that high). Plus, My warlock/rogue had an unlock skill much much higher than 1 and I failed to unlock things all the time. Are you playing on hardcore? I noticed if you drop the difficulty trap and lock DC's come waaay down. Perhaps if you are playing on easy you can unlock everything...or you have a bug of some sort.

Patched to v1.03

I am only patched to version 1.03 as I haven't checked v1.04 to see if it was needed.

My DEX is my highest stat though most of that is due to I think the belt and boots I am wearing. My Paladins are always strong in their DEX stat followed by CHA and WIS and especially so in this game. When I was building my character I checked his available spells and found virtually nothing of any value. His lower stats highest to lowest are CON, INT and STR and can be increased at any time by switching his armor, weapons or rings which are in the second level of his belt(?). The first level is made up of his weapons and any potions, medkits and potions of Bless. I require that my Paladins be very adept at using the longsword and longbow and always have been.

Spell wise this may be the weakest Paladin I have ever played and so he is more of a Blessed Tank.

My difficulty setting is set at Normal for my first run through the game which is fairly normal for me. I remember playing Diablo II/LOD and skills not working properly and so I prefer to learn what works and what doesn't before I bump up the difficulty level for the second time through the game. I think that I have played D2/LOD at least a dozen times trying different characters. My favorites are the Barbarian and Paladin and I am still trying to make it through as an Assasin.

I almost forgot that my Paladin can't open everything and sometmes I have to even change Neeshka's armor and stuff to disable traps and open chests of goodies.

Interesting pally build.

Still, you shouldn't be able to open that door lol. I haven't patched to 1.04 yet either, and I think I have a save in Arvahn, so I will see if I can unlock it.

Edit: I did a little research and this has happened to others as well, so it is a bug. Apparently this was a bug in 1.02 (the cutscene wasn't always firing, but reloads helped apparently), and was not fixed in 1.03. From what I read it was an easy lockpick as well ;)

That Door

Hi Cyrinn, thanks for the reply.

I was surprized myself when my Paladin was able to open that door especially since it effectively ended that quest. I even went to the left of the statue since that door was open and read the book on the pedestal for fall. I got a message that I had already completed it.

My DEX with the switching of items to increase it was I think about 25. I don't know but maybe it is some Divine bug because he should not have been able to open it. Who knows??

1 point and your total was 25! That's a +24 modifier....I didn't know that was even possible.... :speech:

Even with items...+8 max to dex...is there an item that bumps open lock specifically? even so, it would have to add (let's see DEX 22+8=30 which is +10 to unlock so) +14. I guess it's possible and a little easier with skill focus unlock....but....I hadn't found any items that buffed unlock that much.

Must be some magical pally skill that is unlisted ;)

Hi Cyrinn

That 25 was my DEX stat which does help with opening locks which gave me something like a +10 increase to open lock with the one point I invested in that skill. I had a stat of +11 in open lock and I agree that I should not have been able to unlock that door. I am going to look to see if I have a save from that part and have Neeshka try and open that lock because even she with a much higher Open Lock +stat should have not been able to open it.

I called it a Divine bug and now I am curious if Neeshka can open that door. I was thinking that 'Torm' my palladins god was looking over his shoulder.

Open Lock boosters:

Skill Focus Open Lock +3
Thieves Hood Open Lock +2
Gloves of the Rogue Open Lock +2
Amulet of the Master Open Lock +6
Bracers of Dexterity DEX +1 to +8
Belt of Agility DEX +1 to +8

These are the ones that I have been able to find from searching the database just now. Neeshka has the Amulet of the Master, Gloves of the Rogue, Belt of Agility +4 and Bracers of Dexterity +4 along with Skill Focus Open Lock. She also has Bracers of Armor +4 which I switch with the Bracers of Dexterity before going into a fight but she does well in a fight wearing either.

I think I have come across some other articles of clothing or a weapon that also boost dexterity by one or two. I am not sure if a high reflex save is involved at all in opening locks but both Neeshka and my paladin have high reflex saves which I consider the save for any fighter including Khelgar who takes less damage than anyone.

I will finish this in a bit as I want to check to see if I have that save and if Neeshka can open that door. I have something like 17GBs of save files so I may get lucky.

Rerun Completed -- Temple of Seasons

Hi Cyrinn,

Completed the rerun of the first part of the Temple of Seasons. My paladin opened it again with my open lock skill at 11. I then had Neeshka try it after a reload and she also could open the door.

I would have to consider that a bug and I'm running v1.03. There is always the possbility that it was meant to be that way on the easy and even on the normal. No clue!
