Screw the halfling. Here's what you should do for a melee/cleric:
Use a Dwarf. You won't need the Cha as much as the Dex, so no Gold Dwarf.
Bring your Dex up to 14, pump the rest into Str, Wis, and Con. Wis and Con should each be at LEAST 16. The rest, do what you wish with.
Need to stay Lawful. Doesn't matter if you are good, neutral or evil, just stay Lawful.
Take the Earth and Healing Domains. Earth Domain power grants you the Toughness Feat, which is necessary to enter into the Dwarven Defender Prestige Class, and you want that. As well as the 4th level spell Stoneskin. NWN 2 doesn't require the 250 gp material component for this spell, and that makes it godly. Use it. Healing domain gives you free empowered healing spells as domain spells. Hellloooo nearly double duty healing. This means, those nearly worthless 0 level spells everyone else ignores? Yeah, they now heal 6 HP a piece for you if you use them as Cure Minor Wound spells in the game. BINGO.
Take the Dodge feat as soon as you can, that extra +1 to AC against the target you are currently swinging against helps, and it is a requirement for your leter prestige class.
Take cleric levels up until level 10. Upon reaching level 11, you will now take the Dwarven Defender class. Welcome to the world of the best tank you will ever see. You will now start getting the best BAB of the game, 1d12 HP per level, the ability to stop movement and gain incredible bonuses to Str, Con and AC while staying still in a fight, and eventually damage reduction. Not to mention, you now get proficiency in martial weapons. This means, instead of that morningstar/heavy mace as your best weapon previously, you can pick up a dwarven waraxe and use it instead! Take one up, or a warhammer, longsword, etc and a heavy shield. You are now set.
When entering combat, you can now cast the following:
Divine Favor
Stoneskin
Righteous Might
And then swing like crazy. You will now be a large creature, with reach, two sets of bonuses to (+5 total damage and attack), and two kinds of damage reduction. Not to mention, heavy armor, a shield and great defense.
Keep in mind that you will want to take the Extend Spell feat, and keep an extended Shield of Faith memorized at all times. This will negate your need for a Ring of Protection. It becomes a 2nd level spell like this, but by 10th level you have a +3 to Deflection AC and it lasts for 15 minutes when prepared as an extended spell.
Have fun killing.
