Gargoyle

I am trying to do the gargoyle quest. When I went to Strauss he did not admit creating the gargoyle and the gargoyle shows no inclination not to fight. My persuasion is 10. I never even get an opportunity to offer an alliance. And the fight is tough. Even with a sledgehammer I don't get far. Any ideas?

It cannot be! Persuation at level six is enough to persuade Max about telling you the secret of his gargoyle - maybe you have to take Thaumaturgical Creatures, a book that can be found inside the Tremere chantry, but I do not recall its connection tho this quest. Furthermore, with such high persuation it is just impossible not to get the option of making peace with the gargoyle - you just have to choose the right dialogue opitions.
I have version 3.2 - and I do not know why, but it is not possible to convince Jeanette and Therese to stop fighting, one of them always dies at the end of conversation - my persuation was at level 8, so I do not know if is is not some bug or alteration made by the author of the latest patch.

Yes it is, but let's not highjack this thread. I'll send you a PM about it.
As to the Gargoyle, persuasion 6 is enough to talk him down if you choose the right choices. Persuasion 5 is enough to get Max to tell you he created this one. Did you get him to give the amulet that wards against the Gargoyle's attacks? That will help considerably in your fight against it. The sledgehammer generally is the best weapon to use. What clan are you playing? What disciplines do you have points in?

I am playing as a female toreador. I have the thaumaturge book. I went to
Strauss and went through the dialogue a number of times and I could see no option where he offered me the amulet or admitted that he created the Gargoyle. Likewise selecting the "correct" options in talking with the Gargoyle I still get attacked. Now, what I did do was load the "save Heather" scripts. I could load the original scripts and reload the earlier games to see if there is a change.
Using 3.2 I was easily able to persuade Therese and Jeanette to reconcile, complete the quests and even get very friendly with Jeanette.

followup
I went back and replayed the gargoyle trying all the dialogue options. Option 1 is always an invatation to talk. Options 2 and 3 always trigger a fight. The third time the talk option results in a fight. At no time do I get a blue persuasion option.

You need your persuasion feat to be at least 6 to avoid fighting the Gargoyle.
Tell him you won't want to fight. Say you have an offer from Issac Abrahms. Then, convince him to help Isaac fight against the Camarilla in general and the Tremere specifically. Be careful when speaking of the Camarilla or the Tremere. Admitting an association with either group will trigger an attack from stony.
The only line that makes a persuasion check is this one:
Wait! I come here in peace! I have an offer from Isaac Abrams!

I don't get any of those options. I have talked with Abrams and he told me he wanted an alliance if possible, but none of those options come up. Is it possible I did something out of order? I had a bug with the Chastity scenerio and the one fat guy would never leave peep show booth even after I took the money out of the machine. I had to start over and do the quest immediately. Apperantly I read Velvit's poetry out of order.

success
I reloaded from an earlier save and did the quest without any side trips, like to see Heather. I got all the missing dialogue options with Strauss and the Gargoyle is now allied with Abrams.
Thanks everyone for their help.
