Fallout installation problems

My computer is fairly new and I have Win XP, now onto the problem. I just bought the Fallout Collection (fallout,Fallout2, fallout tactics all on one DVD) I went to install Fallout 1 and this is the error I got:

>SetupDLL\SetupDLL.cpp(469)
PAPP:Fallout
PVENDOR:Interplay(GSP - Global Software Publishing)
PGUID:941F9BA8-06F6-42FD-AB91-CFB99B5E13BF
$10.50.0.125
@Windows XP Service Pack 2 (2600) IE 7.0.5730.11

Then I clicked ok, and another error came up, it looked like this:

Setup has experienced an error
-close any running applications
-empty your temporary files
-check your internet connection

Then try to run the setup again

Error code: -5001

After that error the Fallout setup shut down. So I made sure that no applications were running, then I emptied my temporary files and tried to install the game about 8 more times. Then I got pretty frustrated and went thread hunting for a long while and after a lot of searching ended up here, I found the Fallout 1 problems thread from a while ago, and I found the post that explains how I should handle my problem. Only the solution involves copying the Fallout Collection onto my HD, which (wouldn't you know it) I cannot do because another error comes up saying something like "cannot copy FalloutSetup because of file redundancy(don't know if I spelled that right), anyways any help would be greatly appreciated, oh also my Fallout 2 and my Fallout Tactics won't install, but they have different problems and I'l post that stuff later.

Have you tried to use the compatibility mode introduce by WinXP? Just right click on the setup.exe, then select Compatibility and the set it to Win98.

Also, it could be that your DVD is broken, that would explain why you have problems with Fallout2 and Tactics as well...

Update on the problem

Ok so I messed around with the compatibility and now I'm able to get half way through the setup before it stops me and gives me an error, it seems to think I have applications running but I don't, I turned off norton anti virus and it still stops half way through the setup. Some good news though, for some reason my Fallout 2 just installed without any problems, I guess the 10th time was the charm. So now I'm gonna go patch my Fallout 2 to hell and back before I do something to make the Windows Gods angry again.

It indeed seems like a reading error. Have you tried cleaning the discs? Do you have problems with other cds/dvds?

Also, updating your DVD-player's drivers could help...

I also had this problem and have been fighting with the dvd to install fallout and fallout 2, though tactics seems to have no problem. I left an email with 'GSP' to see if this is a problem on their end since I don't seem to be the only one with this issue.
