Cure Light Wounds

Post by Sain »

I have never played as a paliden before(except once on IWD2) so i thought i might give it a try for the healing and such, but at lvl 4 and still no cure light wounds. It might be my low wisdom but im not sure......

A paladin gains 1st level spells at 4th level under the condition that they have a high enough wisdom to be granted bonus spells. Without the high wisdom and bonus spells, they do not get spells until 6th level. Page 144 of the printed manual shows this, with the "0" for levels 4 and 5 for 1st level spells of the Ranger and Paladin classes.

However, so long as you have at least a 12 wisdom score, you SHOULD get ONE 1st level bonus spell upon reaching 4th level. You will need at least a wisdom score of 11 to cast any 1st level spells. 12 for 2nd, 13 for 3rd and 14 for 4th, the highest level spells a Paladin can cast.

A Paladin's main value is Tank. The few spells are just a bonus for what is basically a Fighter - apart from a very few Paladin class features like Smite Evil, Aura of Courage, Turn Undead, and a few more, that are VERY useful.

But, frankly, if you want a decent Divine spellcaster who can Tank, you should go for a Cleric. They don't have the very useful Aura of Courage, but they have much better Turn Undead and a full supply of Divine spells - even some Arcane spells, depending on the Domains you choose (but you can't wear anything but Light Armour if you want to cast the Arcane spells. No problem if you don't choose domains with Arcane spells, though).

I agree with Fljotsdale.

I could have sworn I made a similar post in this thread suggesting a Cleric, since there are many very good weapons for Clerics.
Morningstars, Hammers and Maces not only that Clerics can cast Harm spells instead of Cure on enemies.
A Cleric is an execellent choice in NWN2, imo. :)
Trust me, most of the names I have been called you can't translate in any language...they're not even real words as much as a succession of violent images.

@ Acleacius, You did. It was probably deleted for having nothing to do with the topic of the thread though. Clerics and good weapons for clerics weren't involved in the "why doesnt my paladin get spells" topic.

Well then it was removed wrongly because often the name of a thread is a generalization of the intent of a post.
The context of which he spoke of his Palidan was in casting Cure lights as why didn't he have them and he was intrested in Healing spells.

I sure hope a Mod didn't have to push the boundries of reality so much that removing post about how a Cleric could meet the needs of someone whom didn't understand why their Palidan didn't have Cures yet, is apporpate, accurate or a good use of time.
Especially so since I was obviously trying to offer reasonable help in the matter not trying to derail or go OT in a thread.
I could go on in much more details and specifics but I wouldn't want this to seem like an personal atttack even though it offends me this could or did happen.

I didn't remove the post: Siberys did. But we have a longstanding policy on GameBanshee of requiring all posts in a question thread to deal only with that question, and nothing else. The exception to that would be Speak Your Mind, our forum where some questions are left wide open. So Siberys was acting correctly, according to the way GameBanshee has operated for several years.

If you have a problem with a moderator's actions, please don't use the forums to complain. Send on a PM (Personal Message, available under Quick Links on the top menu) to Buck Satan, the site owner. You can also use this to protest against the rule itself.

Now, let's return to the subject of this thread. If there's nothing else to add, just let it lie. ;)
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
