ok so here how it goes - i'm playing duergar monk with custom built. currently my main attack power are the fists, or i should rather say one fist... (should the enemy be bludgegoing resistant i switch to kama+kukri) and i am facing quite a problem now... i would really like to see feats such as fighting with feet and hands... yet there is no such thing in the game. my monk does quite decent damage (although far from other build - the barbarian duergar ) still he attacks with "only" one hand and therefore even when taking into consideration flurry of blows + haste he looks a little pathetic when opposed to the above mentioned duergar barbaric warrior (he used 2 battleaxes - quite expensive ones - to lessen monsters' health bars in seconds thanks to both high attack rolls, quite decent damage and the 5+5 attacks per round...). i know that 2weapon fighting + ambidexterity feats let you fight with two weapons in hands more easily, but how does it correspond to monks and their unarmed strikes... after all - with no weapon at all the games present the char on the char tab as if he was fighting with only one hand - nothing more nothing less so can 2wf+a enable the monk to fight barehanded but with 2 hands? eg. to have main hand attacks and offhand as well... that would along the other feats greatly boost monks power...

I just monked Khelgar as well and I have read it takes a bit to get him to super monk, but I notice the single hand attack issue as well and was also confused and shocked.
I tried to add two weapon as well and it didn't change things.

He does have a kick feat which would is a foot feat, maybe you haven't seen it yet based on his level?

I have never played a monk so I would be intrested in this too.

Two weapon fighting does nothing to a monk simply because flurry of blows is a more advanced version of two weapon fighting.

*nods* Flurry of Blows is essentially like all wheel drive for fighting. It's not two weapon, but all body parts as weapons. Once you get to 20th level monk, with Flurry of Blows activated, you can make 5 attacks per round, every round. 3 at your highest attack bonus, a fourth at -5 of that, and a fifth at -10 of that. Which is frankly, much better than two weapon fighting unless you are cheating somehow.

However, there is a point here. They left out the feats that truly make a monk shine in unarmed combat. I am assuming the engine either will not support them, or they may be considering to put them into a later expansion. Taking a character and multi-classing them to monk isn't a smart thing to do if you are planning on fighting unarmed to be honest. The only way it becomes worthwhile is if the game allows it, is a high Dex, low Str monk taking 4 levels of Rogue or Fighter to get Sneak Attack and Uncanny Dodge or Weapon Specialization and some bonus feats. Unless you get into the material that isn't unlocked in the game yet....*drools* Enlightened Fist is coded into the game somewhere....

it might be - i haven't finished yet with the monk build - up to now i've finished the game with drow warlock and duergar barbarian as for the level - monk's on 8th i believe or 10th... can't remember.

as for flurry as advanced version - well if you see it this way... with 2wf you can enter stealth mode click attack and finish most of the mob really easily... i say, i'm not using cheats - i'm too great a fan of the series to go as down in the evolution ladder as to use cheat codes or trainers i simply remember that when finishing the game my barbarian simply made "salad" out of the regular mob (lizardfolk etc that at the beginning make a decent enemy).

i'm still waiting for some real feats for the monk, cause what i now have is simply nothing... out of all i saw dodge/mobility/springattack seem to be most interesting. or maybe i'm just blind...

as for the monks at all, i remember hat nwn1 + both expansions had really much to offer for this class, and the "paper and dice by the table" original d'n'd adventure has lots of useful skills/feats that make monks more potent than any other class - or at least i believe so

still i don't think that multiclassing the monk is a good idea - he is already getting what is important for the class package ah, and for those who played monk in nwn1 - the robe of the dark order doesn't haste you now (my friends reports ) it only gives you a spell of Haste once per day... so i believe it's the shining hand order that now offers best pros to be worn ah and there is a ring i believe - that friend also told me - that gives both impr critical and specialization or focus in unarmed strike... only for the monk class

it seems as if nwn2 will get an exp pack - there are less feats that were in the nwn1+exps, the familiars aren't that interesting (give me back my imp or my wyrm ! )


ah and i have a question - i've never noticed it when beating the game twice at which level i finished, yet now this is quite an important case. i'm a duergar, so level XP progression table is shown (in the manual) up to 18th level (due to progression -2 lvls) so will i be able to reach 20th lvl of monk? i'm really looking forward for the last "monk only feat"

Duergars will not be able to reach levels 19 or 20 of any class in the game due to the level adjustment and the max level being 20.

ah so that means - restarting the adventure for me so drows also will have to pass in the monk build... eh, and i thought i was doing well ok thx for the answer however i hate to play agin the first levels... and i always thought (basing on the paper version) that level adjustements simply works this way - to get lvl 1 you've got earn lvl3 required exp points, to get 19 is the xp points that would otherwise be placed as 21st level, and you can reach 20th, yet you would have to work out as with the 22nd level.

you remember - just as it was with id2 - you had that progression table with normal exp levels for most races, and columns with data for those with -1, -2 and -3 adjustements...
