On talking with animals

How does this work? There is nothing on it in the manual. I've been a druid for a while now, but I haven't seen any opportunities to do this. D20srd.org implies you have to be in your animal form (and something about parrots I don't get), but that doesn't seem to work either. Hostile animals just attack and passive don't do anything.

The skill to influence animals in DnD was removed in NWN 2 for some reason. I do not think you can in this game to be honest. I don't see the skill listed in the manual, or the special ability that Druids get dealing with the skill. I know they have had it in other games, and the manual is flawed, especially the requirements for the Eldritch Knight PrC. However, I am assuming they dropped the ability to deal with animals in favor of something else.

Yep. But really the only chance I got to talk with an animal per say was
the spider in the goblin caves with the glowing whatever.
but im not sure that counts. I suppose it's possible Im forgetting something, as I beat the game, and haven't really done much with it since then.

She can talk to animals as a plot device. From what I saw though, you cant just run up to any random animal and talk to them.

It's a pity. It used to be nice to do it in NWN - but it wasn't often that you got useful info; it was quite a minor thing, really, and the info they gave could just as easily have come from somewhere else. I guess it took up space NWN2 wanted for more useful things.

I've run into a few animals my ranger can talk to that open up a side quest or two. It's just not as common as in NWN 1.
