Crashing, need help

Maybe someone could help me.
I'm getting the following error a lot when loading an area/saving the game:
An Assertion failed in F:\Torment\Source\baldur\InfGame.cpp at line number 6295
I tried finding a solution but the best I came up with was this post.
Thing is for me the info in my torment.ini file is correct already. Also, the error I get refers to F:\. The game is installed on driver D, and my cd-rom drive is E:\. F is just a second CD-ROM I have on the computer but I don't even use it for the game.

The data in my ini file is:

Code: Select all

[Alias]
HD0:=d:\Black Isle\Torment
CD1:=E:\CD1\
CD2:=E:\CD2\
CD3:=E:\CD3\
CD4:=E:\CD4\
CD5:=E:\CD5\
Anyone knows what to do?

Are you sure you don't have your PST CD in your F: drive?

If this is a fresh installation then I would recommend re-installing. Perhaps a file was corrupted during the install process. I also recommend defragging your hard drive.

Already tried reinstalling, no good

Have you tried installing to F:, just to see if it would work?

F is a CD-ROM driver on my computer, one I don't use

No offense, but that's distinctly odd--I mean, having a driver show up as a drive. Logically, it shouldn't, and that may be fooling your game.

Are you running on WinXP? Have you tried (on the odd chance that this voodoo might work) switching to Win98 compatibility mode?

Yeah I know it's odd, I even disabled the driver in Device Manager but no good.

I did try to run it as win98 but for some reason I get a black screen trying that.

Try doing a full install, as described in the stickied thread.

The drive he installed it to shouldn't really matter that much.

My hard drice for example is partitioned into eight different drives, with most of my stuff being installed on drive F as well.

Does that error message appear when you try to laucn the game or after the game has launched and you at least see the opening?

It happens during saves mainly.
Sometimes when I quicksave, but about 1/3 of the times I enter a new area and the game auto-saves

Do you have an option to turn off autosaves? If so, try that.

And do us a favor--drop the whine/cry stuff. It really is counterproductive on this board.
