If I remember this right, you'll find him upstairs, and you'll have to fight a battle to rescue him.

I had the same problem. Ended up retracing the entire upstairs and found a door that I had missed. He is indeed upstairs, and has a very important person with him :)

I hope you're talking about Fihelis...the one I should murder. Because I am working for Moire and Axle (or what is his name).

I want to sneak past the guards. I want to back stab him and escape.

I can: sneak past the guards.
I can: kill him (no backstabbing since the dialogue window opens). I kill him fast and swiftly, well, maybe not that swiftly and not that fast, but he remains dead.

What I can't is escape. Why is it that even though I have closed the doors after entering his room the guards leave me alone for the fight, but after that they rush in? (this is bold so that I emphasize my question) :)

I am rogue, and soloing this mission. My fellow companions await for me at the entrance.

Shadows?!

Seems that I am writing in a thread from a year ago.

Like many here, I suffer from char-creation syndrome. And still do. But manage to reach this stage.

I noticed the thugs in the home are shadows....
are they stealthed?
They appeared out of nowhere. When I noticed them, Qara started to cast some spell on her own, I noticed shadow figures like the fiends in NWN1....

Is it me? Or is the game like that?

Hail Necromancer... (for raising a dead thread) :)

Yes, they are hidden. That you can see them as shadows means that someone in your party has made a successful spot/listen check against their hide/move silently. This will reveal them to you as shadows, to show that they are still attempting to hide from you. You may or may not be able to target them directly, depending on if the character you're controlling was the one that detected them, but area spells always work. Once they've attacked (usually) they will be revealed as full, solid, characters.
