Ok first of all, the chat window is smack dab on top of the combat log window, and there is apparently no way to move it or get rid of it, very annoying! How can i do something about it?
Secondly, the game crashes a lot. It will crash anytime I alt-tab back to windows, and it will also crash if I spam too many key presses. what's the deal?

I am not aware of which window you can't move, but I've been able to move most windows I've tried to by "hold-clicking" and then dragging the window.
I think the problem with the crashes is that the game requires quite a hefty amount of system resources, so when swapping around - such as alt-tabbing which requires many resources as well, that could easily cause issues.
My game apparently seem to crash when I exit, which to me indicates that the game perhaps have problems sharing/releasing resources.
My advice would be to avoid alt-tabbing (I'd personally never do it in such a greedy program as this), or perhaps it is solvable by upgrading with more/better hardware.

For me, the chat window only appears when I'm typing, so it's odd, but it's not really a problem. I tried for a while, but I couldn't figure out a way to separate the two windows.

The chat window is there at ALL times for me, and I have tried everything possible to move it. It will not move, it will not go away. I can deal with the crashes but the chat window thing is seriously driving me insane.

Did you try pressing enter? For me, pressing enter brings it up, and then pressing enter again makes it go away.

yes tried enter...its there even before enter is pressed and it won't get rid of it

Got it the same way, so it is difficult to say what the issue could be - outside the obvious "it is a bug" statement. (have run into a couple of bugs myself lately also, and can't update my game).
@kronnyq: Have you tried patching the game to 1.01?
