I have been pondering this thought for a long time. The title says it all.

In my opinion, I'm not sure if Scythe is immortal. What I do recall is that he survived a terrible accident that left him scarred beyond recognition. Well, you could say that he's immortal to survive something like this but I would go as far to say that he is just very powerful.

I would say he is immortal.... This is where i refrain to Mazes saying in the beginning of the game when u enter his chamber....

He was a great hero once, when there was still flesh on his bones

He said some other things to witch gave me quite the impression that he is immortal, and when u got attacked when u reach (Spoiler)

yea im sure he is immortal, he worships death correct? he says "May death close his eyes to you Maze." But the catch to immortality is his scarred form...

I would say no, but only because if he wre immortal, and his body suffed damage (as it has), he would be far more deteriorated that he is. I think that he has worked spells to prolong the inevitable.

I don't think that he's immortal,because if he was,he wouldn't need to cheat death! An immortal couldn't die,and would have no reason for cheating death. And even so,if he was immortal,why would he need the main character's help in Fable:TLC? Which might mean that the main character is stronger than him,but the main character isn't immortal,so my conclusion is that Scythe is a mortal that always finds a way to cheat death.

You just read my mind. Wholly agree with everything you said. I never considered Scythe as an immortal. Just some powerful guy that used supernatural means to cheat death in order to prolong his life.

Exactly! Cheating death doesn't make someone immortal,it makes them live longer

If only they would of showed him in his younger days kicking some arse.

my personal opinion, from years of playing tabletop rpg's, is that Scythe is a Liche. probably a high level will user that found Old Kingdom magic/made a pact with some dark diety, etc.

I have heard of a Lich somewhere a long time ago but I have no idea what it is? Could you explain, please?

this is purely from D&D, and has nothing to do with Fable, but here goes. a liche is a mage, sorcerer, or cleric who, through the use of necromantic magic, chooses an eternity of undeath instead of living out their natural lifespan and passing on to the afterlife. usually they are extremely powerful, evil, and very difficult to kill, but not impossible to kill. thus my take on Scythe; ancient and undying, but not immortal.

I see. Now I recall where I've heard of a Lich before. I've heard of them a long time ago when I was playing Warcraft III. I probably suspect that's where Blizzard got their idea for a Lich. And yes, your description of the Lich almost resemble Scythe's situation, though we don't know whether he is evil or not (I think he's neutral, though I could be wrong. Just a hunch).

with the way the guild is set up, I don't think it would matter either way. hm, one thing I just thought of. there are good Liches as well in D&D. elven tomb guardians, I believe. just a thought

Just to correct you, liches that are elves aren't considered as liches but rather as Baelnorns. As for Scythe... if he really was immortal, couldn't he stop Jack himself? The life sustaining theory works well because if he was indeed all powerful, then wouldn't a certain door open for him?

thank you for the term for the elves, I wasn't sure of that one. and you do bring up a valid point as well. I wasn't thinking immortal or all-powerful, just powerful enough to unnaturally extend his life-force.
