Usually I don't like "funny" things that circulate in e-mails and on internet and this is only funny if you have a black and ironic sense of humour, but I got this from a colleague in Libanon and I felt SYM was the right place for this:

Assuming that I understand the intended humor, I don't think it's "subtle" at all. Why take a photo of people whose faces are covered by veils? It reminds me of a scene in a Marx Brothers movie in which two people are sitting at a small table for a romantic dinner and they can't see each other because there's a very large floral arrangement between them. I could appreciate humor like that when I was six years old. :) I hope nobody thinks it's racist to see humor in something like this.

It's clear here who has said sense of humor. Count me among them.

Hehe, now these kind of pictures I can appreciate :D I think that besides from being funny when looking at it in a harmless way, it has a clear critical core in it too (presuming it's a set-up), but not the usual crude and flaming criticism that normally gets launched on muslims. As said, it enjoys a good share of subtlety :)

(...)

Hmmm, though now that I look better at it, it could be a normal picture after all, something serious, no set-up meant as a sneer. Still, funny as hell. :D

It is the politically incorrect Muslim version of a guy taking a snap shot of hotties?

Heh. I found that amusing. :) Imagine years later as the ladies are going through the photo album, "Look here we are in front of that place that we went that one time! There's me, on the left..... or am I in the middle?"

It made me smile! Sweet Lady Irony!

Like any other, I could rant about whatever ill morals the creator of such a comic piece however... I most definently prefer having a sense of humor.

Is that because it's the easy way out?

Why can't that be funny? Humor, in large, is based on commentary which makes someone else uncomfortable, or puts them in a bad light. This does just that, in an ironic way.

Exactly, though I won't admit to NOT being a bum.

I just didn't think this forum would be a productive place with rants about what everyone knows already... simply trying to smile and save you some trouble. Would you prefer I spout information like a hose which was bludgeoned by a morningstar?

I would say rude and wicked, but amusing :D

For those of you who don't get it, read VonDondu's and Gwalchmai's post above.
