How do I kill Iyachtu Xvim?

He is the wizaed at the first level of the Clerics tower in Severed Hand. I have eliminated all of his minions. I even used ORS. It kept him from killing me but we couldn't harm him. I had him completely covered with summonings and characters when he came out of it and he still managed to wipe us out. He is either really strong or I have lost it. Help

I have a 2 drow character party - a Demarch of Mask/Monk/Fighter/Rogue and a Sorcerer. Rather daft of me not to have any cold or electrical magic - Mr. Xvim is immune to both fire and acid magic (it also makes killing slayer knights more difficult too!)
I found that Skull trap did damage - sometimes. In the end, though, I realized most magic was a waste of time. Even 2 apocalyptic boneguards lasted barely a minute.
Even with an AC of 38, my "tank" could not survive until I did this:
My sorcerer had Mordenkainen's Sword, while my tank had a +5 heavy crossbow (with 80 +5 bolts). By using one character to run around and play "chase me" - 39 bolts and a lot of MS hits and misses later, I could complete the ritual!
And don't underestimate the usefulness of Faerie Fire if you have it (in essence a +2 attack bonus for every ally)...

**possible spoiler**
I used the same run around tactics the first time too. But I noticed something else from one of my summons, an earth elemental. **spoiler** I believe Xvim has a high damage reduction from slashing and moderate dr from piercing weapons. But IIRC he has little or NO dr from bludgeoning weapons. Most players seem to prefer edged weapons (self included). Try going after him with magic Maces, Flails, and Clubs. I may the specific damage reduction mixed up but he is vulnerable to one of the general weapon damage types at least. I tried a second time with the same party and it was much easier.

Well, you learn something every day!
I must admit, I have never tried it with certain weapons, because I've always used my "tried and trusted" method - at least now I can try a new way!

I noticed something when fighting him myself *spoiler*He would cast chain lightning and it would sometimes hit himself as well and he took more damage from it. Naturally I cast some lightning based spells as well and he does take extra damage.

Nice bump of an old thread.
I will give the lightning a try with my next party that gets there. It is currently at the Raven Monastery. Thanks!

Wasn't this theguy that if you killed the baby xvim in the goblin cave he didn't appear? Well, I did that and he is still here. Last time after a bout a wekk I killed him with finger of death. But I think tha tis a fluke.
