i had found 10 but then i ate them (oops) i cant load as i delete my files all the time to keep them in a good order (the xbxo seems to jumble them up) so i just have the one save. anyway i need ot find another 6 Nirnroots now because i just have 4.
is the elixir of exploration worth having and are here any places other than the cove you get told to go to that have lots of the nirnroot?

Nirnroots are everywhere near the water. It is not really a quest you do on one go, but more as you go along doing other things, spotting them here and there. I don't think it's worth a concentrated effort, but it is fun to do as you do other quests. Oh, you will need more than 10 for him, so do not eat them

There are around 300 nirnroots in the game. The elixer comes in three or four strengths. I think it is worth getting them to pump up your stats while exploring dangerous places.

Here is a list of the effects of the different strengths of the elixir made from Nirnroot:
Weak = 10 Nirnroots, gives you Nighteye and fortify health by 20.
Moderate = 20 N, Nighteye health and fatigue 20
Strong = 30, effects as above plus Fortify Blade, Blunt, Destruction, Restoration, Security and Sneak by 5
Grand = 40, effects as above but fortified by 10 instead of 5.
At the moment I don't really need the elixirs for Nighteye as I have an amulet enchanted with it, but the Nirnroots are still fun to collect, and I can see how the later potions could come in useful.

I think they all last for 300 sec, so they are long lasting as well.

Nirnroots like water and shade. They are almost invariably close to the edge of a body of water and usually beside or between rocks & trees, under bridges, in corners of castle walls, etc. They also seem to prefer warmer climes.
I only found about 20 or so total on the shores of Lake Rumare, but they grow like weeds further south on the banks of the Niben. Found almost 100 by walking slowly from Bravil to Leyawin on the west bank and back on the east bank. There are several growing close to the castle walls around the perimeter of Bravil and Leyawin, and a few near the water inside those cities and Anvil. Third-person view saves a lot of time circling around rocks & other shady obstacles if you're not a first-person purist. There are also a few potted Nirnroots in houses, shops and Mage's Guilds (and even one underground and underwater at the bottom of a Mage's Guild well).
