I am currently in SOU Chapter 2 in the Archanists Tower on the second floor. I know I am supposed to teleport through the map using the portals, but every time I approach one, shadovars keep coming through it. I have been slaughtering them by the numbers to boost my XP , but does anyone know if their numbers are infinite?

They are infinite. Just kill a few, grab their shadow gems then ignore them and enter the portal.
