I would say the Atronach.

The Atronach. It is about the only sign worth choosing, especially for a magic user. You get a huge magicka boost based on your intelligence and you absorb 50% of all magic cast at you. The down side is that your magic does not automatically regenerate when you rest, but there are all kinds of ways to deal with that. Just do a search here in the GB Elderscrolls III forum for more info.

The Lady isn't bad either since it gives you 25 extra points to endurance and personality, but I definitely suggest going for the Atronach.

I'd suggest The Apprentice. You get a 150% Fortify Maximum Magicka effect, along with a Weakness to Magicka 50% addition. Which makes good roleplaying sense, since your character is especially attuned to using magic. If you factor in a weapon like

the Staff of Magnus, which provides another 150% boost to maximum magicka above and beyond what you have

, this makes the Apprentice sign very powerful.
