Are there any really really strong monsters/npcs in the game that make leveling up worth it? I'm guildleader of the thief and arena factions, i dont really feel like being guild leader of the other two tho. Are there any really strong dungeons out there or incredibly strong mobs that make leveling up worthwhile?

I am not sure I'm following. Everything levels up as you do, so a bandit goes up in lvls as you go up to simplify it to the most basic level, of course there's a whole story about that, but not important. Anyways, you'll get tougher and tougher mobs and opponents as your lvl goes up, and of course due to the mentioned (bad) leveling system, they are actually tougher than you.

Plus, there are opponents whose levels are more or less set (unless you surpass them, in which case, they increase). There are few of these, and they are usually through select Oblivion Gates.

Level 42 here, and i've yet to come across an opponent I can't kill in 3 magic attacks, and a few swings of Umbra.

The game seems to lack any concept of 'bosses' that stand above the rest of the opponents by any considerable margin.

Perhaps I should put the difficulty up.... though that seems a rather silly thing todo, as I am not using a heavily optimised character setup - Infact I don't think I have done anything anybody else wouldn't have done. This is my first character in oblivion, and I didn't play Morrowind either.

You could switch to light armour (that is, if you are using heavy atm). Thats what I did (after I read a tip of another forum poster). It does put the challenge back into the game. Especially since my light armour skill was so low, the armour (mithril) kept breaking.

Luckily my armourer skill was 100, so no repair issues. Once my light armour skill is 100, I think I am going to go for blunt weapons only.

I'm using a mishmash of light & heavy armor, based on what enchantments I want.

Branching out into other weapons is a nice idea - I think I'm going to master Hand to Hand ;) (though I best get some practice in on mud-crabs!)

Abuse, there should be a few high end bosses that will meet your level and skills set, and raise you 100 drakes. :D
