Has anybody noticed that Oblivion is taking things from DND, and quite possibly, other sources?

I was in an Ayleid tomb when a bandit said that, yeah, so did Minsc! Maybe it's not the FULL quote, but man, that's still close. I've known NO one else to say that in a vid game other than Minsc himself, from baldurs gate.

Also, look at the Nibenay area, just the name. That's a Dark Sun (DND setting) Area. They even published an adventure out for Nibenay.

So, questions come to mind-

What do you think of Bethesda stealing names or quotes from oblivion?
Do you know of any other that are in the game?

I caught the quote from BG2 right away, and thought it was in the way of a wink of affection at the other game.

Well oblivion is pretty much a full 3d version of DND (which is why i like it so much) so there were bound to be such......"borrowing's"

I agree with fable. I think a lot of this is simply a nod to other great games and the developers of Oblivion are showing their affection.

Almost everything that can be said has been said at some time or another. Bethesda is no more stealing quotes from Baldur's Gate than Baldur's Gate was stealing quotes from other, older games. I come from the day when Advent was cool breeze. Any other 'stolen' quotes in the game? Only pretty much all of them. "I'm so hungry", "I can eat for a day on an single coin", "Have mercy on a poor beggar", and on, and on, and on. The quote you mention, "Fall on my sword, while you can!" I first encountered in an adventure game on the Amiga, circa 1985 (not sure, maybe The Bard's Tale in one of it's first incarnations, or one of the graphic versions of Aventure that were popular back then), and I've never in my life played Baldur's Gate. So what do you think of Baldur's Gate 'stealing' quotes from other games?

Oblivion is not the first to do it, look at other games not just RPG's you find quotes and more.

It's a developer's game of quoting by way of either tribute, or winking an eye at those in the know. So I recently heard "Give me some blood, man!" in Oblivion, which comes directly from the distant first Bard's Tale. Bard's Tale 2 itself included a fight between your party and a fearsome early boss named Humbaba--who was a warrior in the great epic Gilgamesh, written by the Babylonians back around 3000 BCE.

This isn't plagirism. When you steal something that was created by somebody else, that's different. I actually had a review I'd written for a magazine stolen by some twit who posted it to an online publication under his name. I quickly contacted the publication's editors who withdrew the offending piece (it was about 1000 words long) and kicked out the guy who claimed to have written it.
