Help Im a The Atronach Birthsign

I just got the game yesterday and I dont know how to recharge my magicka whats going on. Whats so special about this sign anyway

There is an easy way to save yourself, all you need to do is find a weklynd stone or 2, these are found in aylied ruins which are the white ruins that will sometimes have magicka wells outside them. Or you could change your sign using doomstones, these are stones that are dotted all over the place,I'm not sure where they all are but I don know the doomstone of the lady is beside Anvil (the city which is most south westerly, its on the gold coast) on the west side.

Well you can find these doomstones with the names of the birthsigns and when the stars shine upon them you are asked wheather or not you wish to change your Birthsign.

Didn't read the fine print, huh? I stay away from the Atronarch - played a round in MorrowWind under that sign and committed a heck of a lot of time to brewing Restore Magica potions of incredible strength. The extra boost in Magicka isn't worth the trouble. Hopefully one of the doomstones will get you out of this jam, but you'll lose the Magicka boost - you have been fairly warned. It's probably not worth it in any case, as I said.

Huh, i didnt think the birthsign stones "changed" your birthsign they just gave u some power that'd help your type of character.

Well they do ask you wheather you wanted to steer your life by the different sign, so I would assume...

I didn't think they changed it either. I know I've gotten the powers of multiple doomstones and still stayed as the Wizard or Mage sign, whichever it is.

Nope

Doomstones don't change your original birthsign, they simply grant you additional powers of another birthsign.

If you go to a different doomstone and activate its powers, you do lose the powers of the previous doomstone.

Atronach is not a sign for beginners, that's for sure.

In the beginning of the game, the Atronach is one of the more difficult signs to play with, mainly because most enemies are all bandits or mudcrabs, no spellcasters, and in the beginning, magicka is important to heal your wounds. With the atronach you won't be doing that... in the beginning. Towards the end however, when most enemies cast magic and wield enchanted weapons, it is probably one of the best signs, and has a far greater advantage than the other signs. Combine it with some enchanted armor to further boost the spell absorption to 100% and it the inabillity to regenrate magicka will be no problem. You'll be immune to magicka, have a good magicka bonus, and anything thrown at you will be absorbed.

Still, not a good birth sign for a magic oriented user - more suited to a barbarian warrior type class, that simply wants to ignore magic completely.

It's really good for high elfs, since it sort of makes up for their weakness to magicka. As I said before, enchant your armor to get 100% and their weaknesses don't matter anymore. It's also the perfect sign for making enemy mages useless.

Wrong, wrong, wrong. :mad:

There is no benefit in having a sign that isn't worth anything to you.

The Atronach is the best mage sign, especially with a high elf mage.

Sure, this may be a bit hard to play at first, but it is one goddamn brilliant sign, that's for sure.

Atronach rules if you have the patience

I have always played Bretons with the atronach sign both in Morrowind and now in Oblivion. Yes, it is rough at first and yes, you need to plan on becoming an alchemy master to get restor magicka potions, but the benefits later in the game can be phenomenal!
The breton has a natural 50% chance to resist magicka, puls he starts with 50 extra magicka points.
Add to that a 50% chance to absorb magicka and another 150 magicka points thanks to the atronach.
Later in the game, you can find items (or earn them for certain missions) that increase your ability to absorb magicka. You may even be able to enchant your own items to absorb magicka if you earn your way into the arcane university.
I admit that I had to spend a lot of time building my alchemy and makiang potions in the beginning. I even went as far as to make my own class so that my major skills had a few less magicka and I squeezed in blade and light armor to cover for my magicka weakness early on...so why am I bothering with all of this? It's a legitimate question, but I think what my character has become is SO worth it.
Right now, my character is level 28, so almost everything I am fighting is spider daedra and xivilai and such. I have no fear of walking headlong into danger though bacuse I have my 50% absorb magicka birthsign, a 25% absorb magicka amulet, and an 18% absorb magicka ring I found for a total of 93% chance to absorb magicka. I rarely need to tap into my stockpile of restor magica potions. When I do, it's to rip through heal spells while restoring 23 points of magicka per second for 76 seconds. Yes, I've spent hours and hours building my character for what was to come later, and I had a lot of trouble early on. Leter in the game, though, when everyone is throwing magicka at you, I not only have no fear of being hurt by their magicka attacks, but I stand right in the front and take it just to keep replenising my own magicka supply.
Of course, most of my friends think that it was a psychotic way to build a character and that I have too much time on my hands...
I don't know. I thought it was worth it.

Impressive. I did the run in MW, as I said, but it sounds to me like you've refined it well beyond anything I ever even attempted.
The point, however, is well taken. The character traits that make life most difficult in the early running can turn out to be the most effective in the end-game. It's just a really hard tap-dance.

Let me ask Damuna Nova a question? Do you have 1000 welknyd stones to give to me honestly who has the time to find that many welknyd stones i know i don't so will you at least admit the atronach is not the best mage sign? :confused:

I've thought about using The Atronach, but hesitated because I didn't fancy carrying around lots of potions and/or Welkynd stones.

I mostly play Breton or Dark Elf, sometimes High Elf. I have also played other races as Stealth types, but I like Breton/Dark Elf best, because I like using Magic and I like the Mage Guild Quests.

Having read your recommendation, though, I think I might just give The Atronach a whirl. :cool:
