I have fenced over 2000 gold but I don't get a message that the Gray Fox wants to meet me. According to:

Since you're no longer working for S'Krivva at this point, you need to get the attention of the Gray Fox himself. This is going to require a total of 600 Gold worth of fenced items, so you may want to check out some of the nicer places in Anvil now (such as Heinrich Oaken-Hull's home or the castle itself). When you finally reach your new goal, you'll receive a popup reminder that one of Gray Fox's messengers will be calling on you. The journal entry also mentions that you should wait in the Imperial City if you want them to find you quickly. Eventually, Methredhel will track you down and present you with the Turning a Blind Eye quest.

this should happen. Strangely, my journal entry mentions that I have only fenced 500 septims. What should I do to correct/activate this quest? Lex is stationed in Anvil now, so I have done the necessary quests. And Skrivva doesn't want to be my Doyen anymore. Who knows what to do?

Problem solved!

I searched some other forums and a lot of people have comparable problems that the trigger for assessing the right amount of goods fenced doesn't work properly. Thanks to the TES construction set I could solve this problem however. ~SetStage TGStolenGoods 85~ did the trick for me. Now Oblivion recognized that I had fenced 600 and the quest continued. Depending on where you are stuck you need to change the number 85 in something else. See the TES construction set for the correct value in the thief guild quest (Character>Quests>TGStolenGoods).
