console & charactergen

Hiya. I have a specialists/techy question that I doubt anyone here can answer. I got no response on the ElderScrolls boards though (probably too crowded), so I might as well try here.

I want to activate the character generator in-game. Looking at the way it is executed (not only at the beginning, but also after triggering the gate at the end of the prison escape), I assume it is a script that may be activated like any other from the console. If it's anything like Morrowind I can imagine it is something along the lines of 'startscript "CharGen"'. Does anyone here have a clue?

It may seem like a trivial question to some, but I just dislike the poor lightening in the dark sewer and jail where you get to (re)build your own face. In addition to that, I regularly find myself wishing I could slightly adjust my character's hair or skin-tone after finding a particular kind of garment that suits him/her well

Midgame? Is there some purpose you want to achieve by activating the chargen at that point? Because we might be able to help you achieve the goal, without opening the chargen. There's even a ring mod out now that lets you change your race as often as you want, and another that invokes feather CE. With a bit of tweaking, I'm sure you could make it do whatever you wish.

As for the poor lighting, machines differ. I had to raise the gamma from the options menu, but now mine looks fine. If you need more light, have you considered tweaking the INI file light settings?

I did, well.. no ini tweaking that is, but I don't think that's the point here. It's more of a taste kind of thing. I just never seem to get a face right in one try, only after I've worn some clothes and spend some time playing. Like remember that thief/vampire character I spoke of earlier? I really wish I could have 'eviled' him up a bit, maybe some additional eyeliner.. you get the idea. Right now I'm playing an Imperial, but what seemed like good imperial look earlier now looks a bit to dark for the white mage robe he is wearing. It's... subtle, really I know, but I love playing around with subtleties.

Switching races means altering your base attributes and I'm not really interested in that. I'm not really sure what you mean with feather CE?

Oh, I forgot.. the race selection is part of it. I looked around the things you metioned, but I couldn't find anything. I'm d/ling the Construction Set now, see if I can figure something out myself.

Great, I found it. If anyone else feels like tweaking the appearance of their character, simply type "showracemenu" in the console. Without the ", naturally.
Happy roleplaying.
