Crashing on the first quest *possible spoilers*

Ok, so I got the amulet from the king, and am out into the wilderness. I quickly travel to the place where Jauffire should be, and I enter a building, which it crashes right then. It does it each and every time I enter that building.

Any ideas?

Sib, you're not the first person to experince this. Unfortunately the only solution people came up with (as far as I know) was to reload from a previous saved game that was around the sewers or start all over again. You could perhaps use the console to do this part of the quest but I have not yet even looked into that part of the CS. Also there's a mod so you don't have to replay the sewers part if you don't want to if you choose to go that way.

Searched around on the internet for a fix, nothing which worked. Started a new character, well...3 new characters, didn't work. Used the console to get me directly inside, didnt' work.

Guess I'm stuck waiting on a patch then. :(

But can't you use, like we did in Morrowind in these situations, the console to make that whole part of the quest marked as finished? That would perhaps help you skip over that problem.

Oh one question - did you speak with brother Martin outside before trying to get in? One of the guys reported that this fixed his problem, he spoke to all of them outside, then tried going in. It's worth a try ...

EDIT: What sound card do you have?

EDIT 2: Can you try this, it worked for a guy?

"I had CTD in the tutorial, after a certain door it always crashed.

I bypassed this by hitting the TAB button the moment I enter the room. This "freezes" the problem, one way or another.

If I then press TAB again I can continue without CTD

It's a long shot, but it worked for me..."

Not to type another edit, but you know it could be the sound from what I am reading.

Also was wondering do you have an HP printer? Or "Star Froce"?

I did indeed try talking to the dark elf there, no such luck. Dunno the sound card, but I'll try the TAB thing too.

No star force and no HP printer, i read that site you're looking at and tried what they did, nothing.

The sound card issue seems like a real possibility here ... people have fixed these crashes by tweaking with them quite a few times, and there were many sound problems within the game that didn't cause crashes but were annoying as hell. A friend of mine mucked about with the sound drives, also with the .INI file of Oblivion itself and now it works. He had CTDs as well, only right at the very beginning.
