Ok, I'm back after too many attempts at trying to find +2 & above weapons for everyone in my party.

I finally killed the 2 stone golems on the 2nd floor of Rayic Gethra's house, but, when I go to the 3rd floor to kill Rayic Gethra, he stops us & asks why we've interrupted his studies, & to trick him, I say that we're leaving, & then instruct everyone in my party to surround him so we can ambush him by surprise, but, he starts challenging us again. Then he casts fear on everyone in my party except Jaheira, since at the time I've got her casting Doom on him. However, he cloaks himself with some kind of rock armor, that prevents any damage by everyone in my party.

How do I get around this? I've looked to see if anyone posted on this, but, I couldn't find anything in reference to this.

If you can help, I really would appreciate it!!! Thanks in advance!

There's a strategy guide on this very page (look under 'BG II Strategy guides' =) and defeating mages in combat or something similar.

Plus with this mage keep everybody back. To me he can be as difficult as a Dragon. This one fight caused me to reload more than any other.

I've been searching here for over 2 hrs now for anything that will help me defeat this dork, & I'd like to get back to my game!

Is there some spell that may help defeat him that I can use? Minsc is only able to cast Doom at this point, as can Anomen. I had Jaheira cast True Seeing, since I seem to recall that this can help defeat a mage too. It's supposed to take some kind of power or resistance away from him, if I remember correctly.

As soon as you go upstair , pause the game, have all your mages fire Magic Missile, Jaheira use insect plage, and all your fighters shoot arrows at him.

Two magic missile and one wand of heaven finished him right after he talked to me.

Is there another way besides magic missiles? Anomen & Jaheira don't have that spell in their priest scrolls.

I haven't come across any that I can buy, or on anyone we've killed either.

To counter fear let Amonen cast Remove fear before going upstairs. Magic missile is a magic-user spell so Anomen & Jaheira can't cast it anyway. Rock armor is probably stone skin, just wack him for a while to deal with it unless you have a magic-user with breach. Stone skin will absorb a number hits so just keep hitting him.

If he casts protection from magical weapon use normal weapons and vice versa.

He isn't that hard just remember using Remove fear on yourselves and Jaheiras Insect plague on him.

Rayic Gaethras shouldn't be any problem! He always cast Horror - cast Resist Fear before you approach him. He may cast different domination spells - cast Chaotic Commands on your party as well. As far as I know, he never casts Mantle, Improved Mantle or Protection from Magical Weapons. Therefore: Resist Fear, Chaotic Commands, go upstairs, beat him, beat him, beat him, ..., done.

run up and down the stair way until his spells wear of and he cant atack you.

Backstabb! I kill off whole citys with my thief/fighter and boots of speed. Just hide and walk up behind him before he has his defenses up and splatter him. If it dont work run away and hide and try again later after his defense spells wear off.

Rayic is actually pretty easy to handle since he casts the same spells...once you know what they are you can prepare...
1. you must cast "remove fear" on the party before attacking him...this is a must or his horror spell will have everyone running around.
2. attack, attack, attack...you have to beat down him to remove his stoneskin spell. if you have a mage..use "breach" to remove his magic weapon protection. if not see above....he will cast fireball but so what....heal later.
3. Read the dialog window..if he casts protection from magic weapons, switch to non magic weapons..and vice versa...

Ok, I finally killed Rayic Gethra! I also killed Mae'Var too, & now, I'm trying to complete another quest, which is to find Valygar Corthala, & kill him & bring his body to the Government district. I went to his house, & talked to the servant, but, he's not home. He hasn't been home for the longest time. What's up with that? How can I bring his body back if this guy's never home? What am I doing wrong?

Did you search his house? One of the items will refer to property in the Umar hills. Reading the scroll/book should update your world map. If it doesn't update your map, go to the Goverment District, and find a boy named Delon (or something very similar) in the central square near the large statue, and talk to him.

Delon can appear in various locations ... with my Cleric in my first game, he looked me up in the Temple of Lathander. This also happened to be her Stronghold, so it might be that he gets there once you have it, or meet you at the Government District if you yet haven't got it.

Ok, I'm going to look for him later. I found a tax document in his drawer saying he's got a cabin in the Umar Hills. Right now, I have to do something for Aran Linvail. He wants me to go observe with Mook who's on the docks, & wants us to watch some guy with her, who's been cruising by. He kills her, but, these cowled wizards show up, & literally kill everyone in my party!!!

I've tried everything I can think of to kill the cowled wizards, but, they killed Edwin, & right now, I kind of need Edwin to hang around, & I just want to kill them & get out of there, & go report back to Aran Linvail! How the heck do I protect everyone in my party & kill these dorks so I can finish my quest?

BTW, I'm now in Ch. 3!!!!! Any help with this is very much need & very much appreciated!!!! Thanks in advance!!!

Methinks you have forgotten that you can't cast spells outdoors... its illegal in Amn. This has nothing to do with the Mook quest at all, its just because you're casting stuff and the Cowled ones don't like it. Talk to the spell dealer in the Adventurer's mart, she'll tell you who to talk to in the Cowled Wizards if you want to get around this restriction...

Ok, how about if I try this: what if I left Edwin up top away from the group so he doesn't do anything stupid that would cause the cowled wizards to appear? Would that work? It's an idea I just had, so, I need an opinion before I attempt it. Thanks in advance!!!

yeah, or you could just turn party AI off which means the AI party members won't do anything unless you tell them to.

I personally payed the 5000 gold to be allowed to cast spells outside. Makes things easier.

It worked!!!!!!! Thank you!!!! Now I can go back & report to Aran Linvail & go find Valygar & kill him & return his body to the Gov't district. But, I looked on my map, & I can't get to the Umar Hills. Is there any other way that I can get there, or do I have to complete every quest first before it will let me go there?
