Need help with Soloing

I'm soloing my first time, and also playing through again for my first time in a long time. I've never soloed, and always wanted to try, but I am having such a hard time. I chose a fighter/mage/thief and I can't seem to kill anything besides a simple one on one. I don't wear armor so I can cast spells and I use the armor spell, but I still can't take that many hits.
I wanted to solo a Inquisitor (BGT Mod), but I figure I need some spells towards the end of the game. I don't any help and hints will be great.

Never soloed a fighter/mage/thief. But I will say that Cleric/Ranger is pretty easy. Maby if you go to berigost and do some easy quests you can get some levels up and be a little better off.
IMAO there are many easier classes and multi classes to solo I would think that the one you chose is probably the hardest to get off the ground.

Can you help me out with a good set up then with races and classes and give me a little direction, because I really want to go about soloing through these games.

As soon you get some levels, the F/M/T gets really strong. If you can endure the though start, you'll get a eminent character indeed.
The maps south of Beregost is in general easyer than the ones north of it, so you might want to clear out those first. After that, hook up with a composite long bow and hunt a few ankhegs for some nice XP (2000 apiece). You might want to hit them with a few enchantment spells first though.
I say the F/M/T is worth it, even though I haven't tried it out myslef yet. I'm planning to though.
If your looking for an easy exit, a fighter should do it. Human if you want to dual, or any other if you'll be going for a multi. Fighter/mages and fighter/thiefs is two strong combos.

IMHO the best options for oloing BGI are with a F/T or F/C or C/R
The FMT suffers from only one weapon slot, which is a big problem. Arcane magic in BG1 isn't too great either, and you can really live without it (although wands do help a lot).

If you F/T, is it helpful to wear armor then? Can I still go Hide in Shadows?
What's the best race for a F/T, F/C, or F/R?

F/T can where any Leather or studded Leather Armor and still use thief Abilities. Also you can use Drists Mithril Mail +4 should you find a way to aquire it. As far as race I would go with an elf as you would have a +1 racial bonus to Hit with long swords and long bows. Basically the weapons of choice in BG1. Also you can start with 19dex which gives you bonuses to your starting thief abilities and a good armor class adjustment.
Sry just saw F/C and F/R(probably meant C/R)
I would go with a Dwarf or Human for F/C. I think only HalfElfs can be C/R.
