Silly question: Are there rules for Squirrels as an animal companion?

I wish there were, that'd rock.

I'd name mine...Foamy!

Squirrels are not in any book I know of, plus, I'd say it hardly matters as they are not suited for combat.

I'd stay with a comparable animal... perhaps a weasel and use the normal rules.

It would probably be the equivilent of a rogue. Instead of shooting arrows, throwing nuts at its foes.

Not actually for combat purposes. The reason is because my current s/o has expressed interest in getting into DnD, and she has a personal affinity for weather and squirrels (hence a Druid with a squirrel companion). So, it is mostly for flavour.

It could also be used as a scout, or something to warn if an enemy is afoot ((Squirrels have abnormally good hearing and can feel vibrations in the ground))
