Hi guys! I finally got around to ID II and bam problem at the start! I can't run the game because it insists on - please insert CD in drive D which of course is impossible because my CD drive is not labled as such. Is there any way to go around this?

Take it back to the store? Read Bioware's tech support forum?

Is it a purchased copy you have?

Many times you can change the specified drive see if it's alterable. Try opening it with autorun and see if that does it for you.

Sorry if I posted and I wasn't supposed to, but I didn't find any rules against posting problems.

Yes, it is a purchesed game, and no, I can't find the answer anywhere and no, I can't find any way to alter it so far so I thought I'd ask and see if anyone had an issue like this before. Sorry again.

Can you change the designation of your drives then?

Where has anybody suggested you can't ask?

And have you tried the Bioware forums, or contacted the store you bought it from?

If you don't get replies today in this forum, I'll move this thread to the Technical one. Perhaps somebody who checks that out regularly will be better able to help you.

Ah, sorry I was afraid I got it wrong, and posted where I shouldn't have.

The store says the copy is fine so won't exchange it. And I am afraid the drives have to stay the way they are due to some other issues, not important really. I only searched the B forums, nothing there. Gah. I tried removing the game and installing it again, nothing. Really strange, never had a problem of this kind before.

And thank you! :)

One other possibility: try copying all the files to your hard drive, and installing from there. It's a longshot, but it just might work.

Have you tried to open (and edit) the icewind2.ini file in your IWD2 folder with a text editor?
Inside that file, you should be able to find a line concerning the source drive (e.g. "CD1:=D:\").

You could try changing the letter to match your hardware setup, but Ive never tested this, so I cant say if it works...

Hmm, well the install from the HD didn't work, or rather the same problem occurs.

Interesting that about the .ini file though. I looked at it again and saw something I misssed at first - I think I see what may be the issue. It actually has all my drives (including the virtual ones) listed there as a possible destination of the CD2 and since they are 'loaded' that is what may be confusing it. Though I wouldn't think of it really, but who knows! Keep your fingers crossed, am off to install it again and give it a go. Will let you know and thanks for all the help! :)

Yay! It did work. Very very odd is all I can say. Why on Earth did it get confused I have no idea, but like this it works. Odd.

Thank you all for your help! :)
