Is it possible to pickpocket Carsomyr from the Red dragon, since you can't kill him until after you leave the underdark for difficulty reasons.

Dude i got Fir*** on the first try with a level nine crue...all you gotta do is whack away and maybee youll lose one or two people but you can always get them revived eh? so dont wait until after the underdark the demon knight in the kao-tua dungeon are harder then him..make sure one or two guys have resitance from fire on them so his breath doesent kill you cause it is pretty viscious...and have you cleric have a raise dead ready for you if you lose a guy... and keep you lower hit points out of the battle(such as mage)..and he should fall!! :D

That sounds all very well and good but I usually slayer change to kill him myself and avoid losses I tried it without but Firr*** has a habbit in going for my spellcasters, and by the time I raise my tanks I end up loosing another, that no armour change dosen't help either.

get some summons in there to distract him. There are many cheesy ways to kill him, as well, but even if you go totally legit, you can get him.

Who are in your party?

Make sure all your guys have 100% fire resistance, cast all the armor of faith you can. send in the tanks and summons for distractions. Mages should cast lower resistance, lower resistance, breach, breach, and then fire away every magic missile you can. I had jan, nalia, and aerie each with four a piece and they were all 10th or 11th level. Thus, you need the tanks/summons to deal about 40 points of damage to take him out. It is pretty cheap though to think you can just waste him with first level spells.

I haven't got that far yet, I've only just started as an assassin, and I thought I could take Carsomyr before the underdark, perhaps the last quest I do before I go to Brinn Law or whatever it is.

Ned I assume you use fire resistance scrolls on your party...I don't suppose you can do the same to the shadow dragon I know he's harder the the red dragon.

Dragons cannot be pick pocketed, which sort of makes sense, not that it makes sense (other than for game balance) for their treasure (Except for scales!)be on their person.

You can also, if you don't want to cheese, set some traps in the front of His lair and then during the fight atract him to the traps.

@ Colin

I think when I fought firkraag most recently, I had at least one prot. from fire scroll. But there are several items to help with fire resistance, plus cleric 3rd level spells pro. from fire or something. Either way, firkraag is a push over. Yeah, the shadow dragon is a lot tougher to deal with. I'm sure he's got his weaknesses also, I just don't know them. In fact, I don't even remember his breath weapon, must be acid.

Hm, shadow dragon tougher? No, shadow dragon is the easiest dragon in the game. Firkraag isnt that hard, aerial servants is a good help, and early summon spell as well

Don't forget that many of the encounters scale in BG2: I seem to recall having a beeyotch of a time with the shadow dragon once. I was running a party of two; a monk and Jaheira. Well, we were very high level, and the dragon /seemed/ lots tougher than usual...

...of course that could also have been due to low numbers on my side. :)

Why Breach twice in a row? A single one takes down all protections.

Shadow dragon easier, thats what I originally thought, but he's the most powerfull undead creature in the game all those annoying level drains, possibly the blue dragon?

If memory serves (thank you, Yoshimo), Bilbo Baggins once successfully pickpocketed the dragon.

@ Xyx,

It might be overkill. Definitely not efficient. I just don't have memorized what spells similar to breach actually remove so I just throw everything I have at them. Or, in the instance they are recasting a protection I just removed, another breach is on the way.

But the dragon had all his treasure around him.
Fikaraag seems to be one of the last dragons with pockets!

The first dragon I killed was the shadow one - and I did it with Edwin as tank :)
I was getting slaugtered by its magic attacks, and then I remembered something about Mustard Jellys being 100% magic resistant. So Edwin polymorph self to jelly. In the beginning it was a bit critical - the dragon would flap its wings and send him flying, and I had to send extra tanks in to keep him occupied and keep him from attacking my party.
But after a while the dragon would just stand there and bite at Jelly-Edwin - all the while getting the "weapons ineffective" text. Then the rest of my party just strolled in and carved a few dragon steaks.

Wierd but fun... :)
