My system is not reading Adobe: Help PLease

I need to put Adobe Reader onto my system. No matter which browser I use to download it with, my system refuses to read, and therefore open, the file... When I select the option to search on the Net for whatever tool can open the thing I get zero results

I have no idea what might be causing the problem, and I'd appreciate any help in solving the issue.

Cheers!

btw, if it makes a difference I run XP Home.

edit: sorry regarding the upper case "L" in my title where I've written "Please." Typo.. I wasn't trying to shout ;)

Okay..

I just found that I had an uninstalled Adobe package on my machine, so I went ahead and installed it, no problem... I think...

Except, when I clicked on the document I was trying to view, I received an error message stating that Adobe had "encountered a problem," and needed to close...

I am wondering though, if it has something to do with my security settings somewhere on my comp.. Since I noticed while looking over the Adobe files that there is one for "Active X," which I suspect I might have disabled..

Does this happen with any Adobe Acrobat document you try to open or just one or two?

It might be that the document is corrupt, not the program.

I've tried with several documents, because that thought had crossed my mind too. But in each case I get the same problem..

Thanks for the link Rookie. :)
I went to the Foxit site and was inpressed by the thought of being able to use a small and nimble PDF reader, which Adobe is not.

I downloaded it, and installed it, no problem....

Except I still can't read PDF files...
I'm assuming it has something to do with the way I've configured my system *sigh* When I'm more awake I'll take another look at my security settings....

Just as a note, I'm still using Adobe, although after this thread I've decided to switch

There are also several other free PDF readers. Search on Google. If all readers don't work, then the problem lies somewhere else.

Cheers Rookie!

I got Foxit to work, it was just some basic fiddling. Gah... I hate settings sometimes!

It looks very nice btw, much cleaner than Adobe, and without all of the extraneous, resource-hogging features.

Also, I just discovered, it allows you to modify the document and save the changes; you can even easily copy text. Very nice indeed!
All this for free, and no unnecessary bells and whistles.
Adios Adobe! :D
