BG III in 3D

I think that its a real shame that BG III will use some flash new 3D engine; the old Infinity Engine made very playable games, with great atmosphere and which ran on older PCs. All possible avenues of gameplay should be explored for the sequal, but such a drastic graphical update a surely unnecessary!

As long it has the same playability, whats the problem?

As long as they don't make it like M&M series after World of Xeen or Tomb Raider thing and they keep the interface like BG2 or may be better I'll devinately gonna play it !

Yeah, I wish they keep the old infinity engine. The only thing they should work upon are a little sharper graphics, like the ones they have in HoW.

From what I've heard and read there isn't even gonna be a bg3 only a bg game for the psx2 but it's a hole different game and has nothing to do with the bhaalspawn saga.

BG3, IIRC, has nothing to do with the Bhaal spawn saga. Be cool if it used the engine NWN is using, eh?

to put it bluntly, the engine used in BG2 is old and out of date. It can barely support a couple meteor swarms, let alone what BG3, if it exists, will probably have. If they did what they did with BG2, as in you start where you were at the end of BG1, well then I'd imagine there are gonna be some flashy skills/spells. Does anyone even know how ToB is gonna work out?

Well, in NWN you will control only one player, not a party... I think there will be some problems to put a lot of creatures (allies or enemies) in the screen at the same time using 3D graphics... Be prepared for the hardware upgrades!

TORN uses a 3D engine, and I believe you will be in charge of a party of three people.

My problem with the use of a 3D engine is that encourages developers to go down the action-adventure "nice graphics, shame about the gameplay" road (Severance: Blade of Darkness anyone?). Technological advancements used "just because they can be" are bad news and hey, my own PC may amongst those inadaquate for the new game!

Lorenoth: BG III will start a new saga and therefore will probably start at Level 1 like the original BG.

This is the problem with the advancement of hardware - software tends to be loaded which means machines older than a couple of years will not be able to run a lot of software. I have recently had to do a major upgrade to my machine (which was top spec 6 months ago), but already there are machines with 1.5 times the specification....

Its all very well if you've got the money, but I guess thats the way of the world.

Sellsword - don't get me wrong - I don't have the money! Having other priorities I have saved for over a year for the update!
My upgraded spec was top spec 6 months ago, my old spec (almost three years old) was starting to struggle with a lot of the loaded software not meeting minimum spec etc.
It was, however, big enough to run the BG series but would have limped desperately through any enhanced software programme...
Oh well, my new spec should be good enough for another couple of years I hope!

Which engine are they using for Pool of Radiance II: Ruins of Myth Drannor? It looks realy cool and it kind of looks like the Infinity engine.
