Reading holo-discs

This might be a stupid....but I have no idea how to read holo-discs. Vree told me to insert it in my pipboy 2000....er....HOW HOW HOW?!

Uhh - long time ago, but I recall right-clicking on the item, and then there is something similar to a use icon in the menu which comes up.
But I'm grasping at straws here cause I can't remember clearly

Oh...I got one more question. Is the combat shotgun considered a big gun or small gun?
