Patching: Will our saves/characters still work after we apply new patches?

This is an issue i haven't heard addressed anywhere. Will our savegames and characters still work after new patches (such as the upcoming 1.2) come out? or will we have to start over from scratch? it sounds like if there are as many bugfixes as there should be , there might be too many inconsistencies to make the game backwards compatible... that would suck because i am really enjoying this game and i don't want to have to play everything all over again already

We can't say one way or the other. However, I would be prepared to lose your current game, given the depth of changes being considered.

that sucks/ looks like i'm gonna just play it through on 1.1 and then if i ever play multiplayer i will play with the latest patch

There are certain changes coming that will break saves, and others that won't ... how they decide to package things out will decide when your saves will die - but they *will* die eventually.
Since we don't know when the next patch will arrive or what it will contain, we can't know for sure.
