Hello all

I am currently playing a very good Cleric, her one weakness is that she is no good at Combat casting! Apparently, being stabbed with a sword is too distracting for her when she's casting a spell. So I am using Dalean and A Summounded Chief Skeleton. So there we are, running through Neverwinter wood and come across Greff. I think, be careful, must make sure I don't kill him - you know, he goes, "Don't kill me, I surrender" and then you hit him with 30 points of Divine fire - whoops!

So OK, he surrenders, but somehow Dalean still manages to kill him. At least, I think it was Dalean - you know I was already to forgive and forget, I wasn't going to point fingers, but my Summons takes great offense to this and promptly attacks Dalean. Dalean, not too amused with being poked in the ribs by a Catwalk model, whaps him a couple of times with his double bladed axe, and the Summons dies. Not a problem, I think, I did actually save just before this, so I go back, reload, and don't summon Skeleton. Dalean manages just fine to kill Geff by himself. *sigh*. OK, never mind. We go onto Delilah, she surrenders, and I actually witnessed my Summons doing a quick sneaky stab to her ribs AFTER we have finished fighting. She dies. Dalean gets very upset, and once again, my Skeleton is quickly punished. Now, why is it these two can't get along? I would like to do without one or the other of them, but if you have five or six bad guys my Cleric can't handle fighting them herself, nor does she have enough time to get off her really offensive spells before they reach her with their weapons. It's not as if I currently have many offensive spells, she can Heal like there's no tomorrow (although she has to run up beside Dalean when she doing this, and tends to get hit by the enemy anyway), so I need both of them. I hope this isn't a patch thing........

I've had this kind of thing happen from time to time but not in the particular example you give. The best way to avoid it is to pay close attention to the health of the opponent and call off your troops right about the time the bad guy gets to "Near Death". Then strike the few finishing blows yourself. This can be tricky if you have a non-combat character, but you should be able to buff up sufficiently for one or two blows. Timing is the key.

I don't think this is patch related. It seems to result from the fact that the game is not turn-based. The various actors, (PC, NPC and Hosile), schedule their actions on diferent schedules and sometimes it takes awhile for the message to get through.

Well, normally I'd agree about the time lag, it was just that we all very clearly stepped back when Delilah said OK, no more, so it really looked as though Skeleton was just annoyed at her. I'm sorry, it was quite funny to watch, it's just annoying that we weren't able to save her. I'm worried it might happen when we need to defeat someone but not kill them. However, as my Summons is a third level spell and my Cleric is now 12th level, I hope I will be able to get something more powerful. Whatever the other summons spell is, it goes up with levels, I notice, so I might use that. Although I fought a Flesh Golem recently, and my "stronger" Summons died, and my Skeleton made mincemeat of him.

At least now she's getting some hit points and I've just picked up a Bastard Sword +2, so she should be able to handle combat more easily now.

Thank you.
