And I have to say that the ending battle was far too easy. I expected some sort of challenge, but I hardly took even damage and didn't even lost Deekin. Didn't have to use a single potion of heal either. Huge disappointment anyways.....

What difficulty did you use? If you use normal, try very hard... Mephisto will now hit for 200% damage while you hit for maximum 50%

I just tried that. Only made the battle last longer, still far too easy. At least Mephi succeeded to make some damage this time....

Agreed. It's a very easy battle. I suppose I wasn't too surprised. By the time you reach the end of HoTU your character is of phenomenal power. It's hard to create a foe that can stand against that kind of character power. Still, it was dissappointing to me, as well.

Easy solution: Make a char that sucks. I.e give a bard wisdom instead of Charisma and so on. That should make the game hard enough :p

I jusy finished it, and I found it moderate in challenge. I was a wizard, and I couldn't find a single spell that worked on Mephisto. Also, he made one of my henchmen switch sides, so I had to do with Valen. Valen couldn't beat Mephisto, so I had to use the potions of Heal that I had stacked.

All in all, I thought the fight was fair in challenge, but it was unfair my Wizard was powerless against him. After all she WAS an ultra-Archmage with Epic Spell Penetration.

Acid's his main weakness. Storm of Vengeance does wonders against him.

I had Bard5/RDD11/CoT11. I just hacked away. Nathyrra also betrayed me, but it took only maybe 2-3 rounds to took her down first. I bet that it would be much harder with wizard or sorceror. All of the spells that Mephi cast seemed to do zero damage. Maybe they were mostly fire based?

i thought HotU was well done, the underdark rules!! my only real complaint is how buggy it was at the launch and the last boss fight. I liked the part when you commanded the drow to fight in that huge battle...... i had a level 15 paladin/level 10 CoT (since i turned to chaotic evil and couldnt level up my paladin skills). That part when you are in hell or whatever was pretty strange too.

I found that to be the most enjoyable part of the game actually...

SPOILER: Especially when you meet Aribeth.

Well, I have to agree with you on that... :)

I think HotU has ruined me

I just got NWN a few weeks ago after playing it at a friend's house. I got a little bored part way through the 2nd chapter in the original game and started playing the 'Shadows' expansion, which I also got a little bored with. (I have little patience with wandering about and/or expansive dungeons unless regularly given interesting distractions).

I am up visiting my friend again and decided to play Hordes of the Underdark on his PC. And now I think the rest of the game has been ruined for me. I just loved HotU so much. I only got a little bored in Chapter 1. And maybe I'm easily amused, but I really loved the interaction between Nytharra and Valen--and my character's romance with Valen. Usually NPCs aren't actually FUN to have around. I prefer to actually feel some compulsion to keep my "buddies" alive, and generally I only end up feeling guilty that I couldn't give less of a crap about my brave companions. Sure, they're NPCs, but HotU managed to make them interesting. I actually played through Chapter 2 & 3 twice in 3 days. Maybe just because it's shorter, the storyline was a lot more fun to play through than what I've seen of the first two plots.

I do agree that the last battle was a bit easy. I didn't get betrayed, and, frankly, when Big M died I was surprised. I thought he was going to revive or something...but...nope. It might have been a little more challenging had he summoned some devil hordes to fight by his side. (Speaking of which--where was his ghostly army at the time?) The end was a little abrupt, and though I enjoyed the narrative "what came for everyone after that" at the end, it seemed a little odd not to be able to run around for a little while after winning the battle to find out some of it for myself. Maybe I'm just used to open-ended RPGs.

But, oh...I can't believe I never got my stolen stuff back. Stupid drow. And I was disappointed not to be able to loot the Valcheress's corpse.

I read that there aren't going to be any more expansions, and I am vastly disappointed. I want to do some more adventuring with familiar henchmen as mentioned by the scholar at the end. I mean, he didn't say what happened to familiar faces such as Tomi. I would probably find the continuing adventures of me & Valen & another old companion a good choice for a set of modules at the very least. :D

Spoiler : You can loot the Valcheress (sp?) if you are quick enough. The moment she dies (if you kill her with melee weapons that is) take the cursor on her and press. The same time press the space bar to stop the game. All her items should be there for you to take while the game is in pause mode.
