Frozen Word with 100% CPU usage problem

Hello, guys.

I was typing away with MS Word 2003, and it's suddenly frozen. Okay, those things happen, I thought, and used the Alt+Ctr+Del. I found CPU usage was 100%.
Next, I reopened the Word, then found, now not only the texts I was working on but also other texts, even new ones, get frozen as soon as I start typing. Each time I get CPU usage 100%.

Past 24 hours, I have tried:

-restart Windows XP
-used Repair Application from Word's Help
-recovered the previous setting of Windows
-reinstall Word
-defrag and disk check
-uninstall then reinstall Word from scratch
-started Word in safe mode(still did not work)
-started Windows in safe mode->It only worked when I started in diagnostic mode without anything to add on, even system.ini
Once I added sustem.ini or others, it got same problem

Err, have I missed something??
Anyway, I suspect it is something to do with Windows, rather than Word, considering I reinstalled the program (and checked with new texts, rather than opened saved ones).

I am absolutely at a loss. I have never had this before, and Word was the last thing I wanted to have problem.

I use Windows XP and Word 2003 on my Dynabook with Ram 512MB.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Well you're probably right. My guess is that windows got messed up somewhere along the line. Run some virus software if you have any. Don't know what else to tell you. You've already done everything I'd have suggested.

Is winword.exe the application/process that is consuming your cpu in its' entirety?

Did you check what progresses were active at this high CPU usage?

I had a virus once that did the same. I couldn't even run the antivir prog  This is how I managed to solve it: I ran Windows in low mode (or how do you call that... F8 :) ) and ran msconfig where I could uncheck the undesired application in the "Automatic start" list. After that I could find it with the antivir prog and remove it.
