Unable to get Sir Dante to talk
Unable to get Sir Dante to talk
I cannot get Sir Dante to spill the beans on Yarun. In the walkthrough it says that he will offer a trade, that hasn't happened. I tried to talk to everyone in Verdistis hoping that someone would give a clue on how to get Sir Dante to open up or else "rat" on Yarun so that the quests can be completed. I have visted Yarum and he makes no effort to talk about the Assassin's Guild. Anyone know what I overlooked? All other quests in Verdistis appear to have triggered. I stiill need to solve the Duke's murderer quest and I think that it has something to do with the Assassin's Guild. I am attempting to stay away from the walkthrough in detail, just went to find out about the Assassin's Guild and discovered the information about Sir Dante and Yarun.

The problem comes from following any walkthrough: some quests have to be done in a certain order, and it sounds (from what little I can judge) as though you're skipping a bit. You need to do Dante's own quest before you can advance much further in his confidence. Have you gotten the title deed back to him, yet?

First I was not following the walkthrough before the trouble started, I came accross the portal while nosing around Sir Patricks place and I got into the room with the deed, and as I normally do with anything that looks important to the game I picked it up.
I only looked up the walkthrough when I went through everything in Verdistis and couldn't find anyway of joining the Assassins Guild (don't forget that this is mentioned by a number of people in the North area.) That is when I looked at the walkthrough to get a clue as to where the Assassins Guild was. If I had looked at the walkthrough first I would have known to go to Sir Dante first!
If you look at the layout of Verdistis you might discover that Sir Patrick's Estate is closer to the entrance then Sir Dante's and for that reason is why I went there first as I generally work from front to back of an area unless the map is marked with something of interest and I need to go there for something.
I only then found out about Sir Dante's quest then (I had already found the necklace or whatever it was for his wife by then.) I went after that immediately after the quest appeared. Normally I attempt to complete a quest as soon as it appears, although there are some that cannot be completed immediately.

I don't notice you referring at all to the deed in the first post, but I do notice that you seem very angry. With respect, I suggest you cool down before you come here for hints, again. Cold logic works better than hot anger, especially if you're seeking help about something.
First not really angry, but somewhat discussed in the fact that you assumed that I was using a walkthrough.
Oh, but I didn't. This is what I wrote: "The problem comes from following any walkthrough: some quests have to be done in a certain order, and it sounds (from what little I can judge)..." In other words, I was having trouble following your initial post, and you did mention using a walkthrough. I thought the problem might come from its use, but I wasn't sure, and I wasn't meaning to attack you, if you did. So let's just count things as even between us.
Have you exposed Dr. Elrath yet to Commander Ralph? When you do, Ralph tells you that he thinks the old Duke may have been assassinated, and that you should check out the Assassins' Guild through Dante. I seem to recall that until Ralph says this, the trigger for that piece of conversation with Dante is missing.

I did do the Dr Elrath thing and exposed him to Commander Ralph. I can remember the Commander sending troops to arrest the good Dr. However I don't remember anything about the Assisan's guild, not saying that it didn't happen. Unfortunately I was continuing with the game and I rang the gong in the Council of Sevens meeting hall and apparently there is no way back from there. So I have been beating up imps, and sand monsters! When I start the game again in "Hard" mode I will have to watch for this and also to visit Sir Dante first, and also not finish the Council of Seven Quest until I'm done in the other areas. I did manage to wipe out all of the Orcs, and bad guys in both sewers, almost messed up and forgot about the graveyard stuff but I got that okay, luckly I didn't drop the book into the reserve pile of stuff that I had stashed next to the portal by Riverside. I was dropping things that I didn't want to carry around with me that I felt might I might need later right there by the portal. I was also dropping various swords there when I wasn't sure of which on to use basically try it to see if it works better then the others. Just for grins I like the "frost" swords best even though they don't do as much damage, however freezing your opponent so that he can't attack you is great. Man there must be about 1000 imps running around in the WIlderness(?) I think that I have leveled up twice just beating on them!

Frost swords are something of a bug in DD, since they basically immobilize your enemy everytime you hit, and the immobilization never stops. As a result, I prefer the Freeze spell, instead. That lasts a brief period of time. Makes combat a challenge.
Future hints: save up everything you find in the way of weapons, armor and items, for trade to the blacksmith. You'll eventually get excellent prices from him. You'll also occasionally find good spells for sale from the mage down the block. You'll want as much money as you can get to buy gold charms for enchanting in the desert area. I typically try to get items with 5 charm placements before I reach there, too. That way, you can really pump up all your resistances to 100.
