Experience with Familiars/summons?

I'm just curious, would anyone know if using a familiar or summoning a creature with a spell happens to reduce the XP you get like having henchmen does?

It does.
Each additional member of your "party" makes a fight easier (increases your challenge rating) and thus "decreases" your XP.

*sighs* It's so fun watching my buffed panther familiar sneak attack everyone with impunity. Has to go though. :(

Depending on how many of the expansions you play, it dosen't really make much difference either way. I think it was a level or two difference in NwN and a three or so for me in HotU when I played, although I rarely used familiar anyway but relied of summons. (The pixie and especially panther familiar are way to overpowered in this game)

I normally avoid using one, but I decided to do a pure caster and it's easier with a decoy. I was just curious as the familiar happens to be part of a class ability for certain classes. It doesn't make sense to me that you should be penalize for utilizing the full potential of your class. That just seems to me like you'd need to be penalized for using knockdown as a fighter or turning undead as a cleric to keep that even.
