3 Rome: Total War problems

I got 3 problems with Rome: Total War.

1. In the main menu, it doesn't erase the screen, so I see everything that was on the previous screen: the quote from the startup screen, and every menu I open, remain displayed. The mouse pointer also doesn't disappear from where I moved it.
I'm using a GeForce FX5600 with the Forceware 66.93 drivers.

2. Sometimes, when I'm on the campaign map, it suddenly crashes to desktop. I don't see a pattern in when it happens.

3. During the Prologue, I can't save the game. Is that supposed to be normal?

I updated to version 1.1, the latest as far as I know.

1. Dunno - try rolling back to 5x.xx drivers
2. R:TW is notorious for instability.
3. It's normal.

I had the same problem with the 55.xx driver I used before.

One possible light on the horizon: the developers have set a goal of 1/15 for a new, massive patch, dealing with a host of issues. But it has to be approved after that, so it will probably be towards the end of the month before it's ready.

I know that stinks; and it's quite clear from their posts that they counted upon the player base to find all the problems for them. I'm just amazed there hasn't been a round of developer-beating in their forums because of this attitude.

On a certain R:TW forum I visit, EVERYONE is beating the developers up for the myriad of bugs present even after the first patch.

Hm..sounds to me as a serious lack of RAM, how much you have ? and are you sure it's still working like it's supposed to ?

No it's not. Many players of R:TW now expect it to crash every other battle :p

Solved this problem. It appeared to be a malfunction of Windows Media Player. I re-installed WMP 10, after which I could see the intro movies and the background animation in the main menu.
However, I've got another problem now. When I start a new game or load one, the program starts to load it, but hangs at a certain point and does nothing anymore, preventing me from playing. Any help?
Btw, the v1.2 patch has been published. Its readme contains seven pages of bugfixes.

Solved this problem. It appeared to be a rather long loading time (about 15 minutes). The solution was in free disk space - when I got back to 10 GB, it all worked normal.
