henchman ranged weapons question

I have problem with my henchman not wanting to use ranged weapons. For example Tomi doesn't want to use his bow because his level is low (he is level 5 or 6 and bow requires to be 11). I remember while playing version 1.29 that he could use his default bow. I then installed AI overrides for the game which allows me to use henchman's inventory in original campaign and gave Tomi another bow he can use. Is this bug or feature I dont know but seems stupid to me that when I start the game I can't make my henchman to use ranged weapons instead of meele ones. Is this only me or somebody else has the same problem. This really pisses me of so please help.

Well - first advice would be to update the game to remove the item-level requierments, they were removed in some patch (I can't remember which though).
It will also fix an abundance of bugs.

So this IS a feature in NWN? Henchman cannot use his/her ranged weapons. And how am I supposed to give Tomi (or any other henchman) a bow he can use if I can't acces his inventory in Original NWN. Isn't it a bit stupid? So there is a version of the game where those level reqs. became part of the game... I'm gonna look into it. Thanks.

The "released" NwN presented the level requierment for items - I'd think mostly with multiplayer in mind - so low level characters couldn't use high level items.
But it was removed relative fast as far as I remember, infact it was removed shortly after my first play through the game, so it is quite some time ago.
And upgrading your game with the latest patch is always a good idea, due to bug-fixing and other issues - like level-requierment.
Simply press "update" on the game-launch screen.
As for the no-inventory of the original NwN, well that was foolish and Bioware did correct that in the expansions Shadows of the Undretide and Hordes of the Underdark, where you have access to the inventories.

Yes I know that in Shadows of the Undretide and Hordes of the Underdark there is inventory control but one doesn't have to buy expansions, right? Ok I changed a setting in nwnplayer.ini so ILR was turned off and things are back to normal.
I update my game, I'm playing v1.65 original NWN and hitting the wall with henchman ranged weapons knowing that when I played before Tomi could use them. Thanks for helping me find a correct term: 'item level req.' it was too hard for me

Of course one dosen't have to buy the expansions

- but they are in my opinnion much better then the original NwN, so I'd advice - if you like NwN somewhat - to take a look at them.
