The Pure Necromancer ?

I have always liked making Necromancers in diffrent RPGs since they stand for
chaos , evil and only do what serves them best for the moment.
I tried building myself a necromancer in NwN but imideatly ran into a brickwall
of troubble when it came to chosing spells that do enough damage.
A Necromancers is to my knowledge a spellcaster who focuses in cursing and
weakening the enemy while summoning undead to assist in the destruction of
the necromancers enemies.

But from the very start it seems like the spellboard lacks in spells for building
these necromancers since there are no low level dmg spells in the spelltrea
under necromancy.
A necromancer CANNOT cast fireball, magic missile or other evocationspells,
he cannot cast enchansing spells since enchanting is a good type of magic.
Casting "Ray of Enfeeblement" is not nearly enough for taking your
enemy down, and i dont even dare thinking about those middle level chapters
where you dont have access to nice spells but run into tough enemies
constantly . Like the Castle of Jareg and those Greater Fire elementals....

The only spells within Evocation i can see a necromancer using is either
Cone of Cold or Ice Storm since its the closest to "Death magic" at that
level, but other Evocation spells are forbidden. Also all types of Familiars
are forbidden since that would require a Undead familiar, and there is
no such thing to summon.

So... any thoughts and idéas ?

BTW: Necromancers are Supréme.

What class are you?

The only necromancers I know must be the Pale master.

and he don't have any spell restrictions AFAIK.

-or mabye you mean you have taken the Spell school necromancy?

Ever thought about a bat as familiar? Sure, it isn't undead, but quite fitting IMO ;)
And if you have the expansions the Pale Master is indeed a very good choice if you want to play a necromantic char.

i'm not sure where you've come up w/ this definition of necromancer, afaik nwn allows necromancers to cast evocation spells.

but if you want to be that focused - negative energy ray / burst (lv 1 & 3) these can be empowerd, slienced ect

burning hands, melf's acid arrow & the acid breath spell are all not evocation spells.

enchantment is out too? what using magic to paralyze an opponent then stabbing them to death not evil enough for you?

you also have the option for "phantasmal killer" at level 4 it may help you survive long enough to get to finger of death.

The reason why Necromancers are not aloved to use Evocation spells like
F-Ball and the Burning hands is that necromancers are suppose to use cursing
and deathmagic. What im about here is a Pure 110% RP Necro, not some
halfbaked necro that uses the magic thats is best for the moment.

For example: You come into a cave and see that you´ll face 6+ Ogres and
a few trolls. In this position as a pure RP Necro , you are NOT aloved to
sway from your choise of spellschool and use the spell "Fire Ball" which could
easely kill them all before they reach you.
Here it would be time to use some nice area-effective deathspell like circle of
death , ofcourse after throwing Mallison. get my point ?.

Enchanting spells .. i dont know about those, they sound.. Divine to me, allthou
i could be wrong.

I hope you get my point anyhew.

ah ok.

actually the room full of ogres isn't that big a problem, negative energy burst and summoned undead. it's not quite as quick as fireball but it will get the job done.

a bigger problem would be fighting undead. at least until you are high enough level to cast undead killing spells.

Why is cone of cold 'allowed' and Fireball not? Seems like quite the same to me (only other element)

Ok, then, here's a list of spells in NWN that I personally feel are necromancy, pick and choose as you see fit.

LVL 1: Negative Energy Ray
LVL 1: Ray of Enfeeblement
LVL 1: Scare

LVL 2: Darkness
LVL 2: Ghostly Visage
LVL 2: Ghoul Touch

LVL 3: Negative Energy Burst
LVL 3: Vampirit Touch

LVL 4: Bestow Curse
LVL 4: Contagion
LVL 4: Enervation
LVL 4: Evard's Black Tentacles
LVL 4: Fear
LVL 4: Phantasmal Killer

LVL 5: Animate Dead

LVL 6: Undeath to Death (really your only good defense against undead)

LVL 7: Control Undead
LVL 7: Finger of Death
LVL 7: Shadow Shield

LVL 8: Blackstaff
LVL 8: Create Undead
LVL 8: Horrid Wilting

LVL 9: Energy Drain
LVL 9: Wail of the Banshee
LVL 9: Power Word: Kill

In addition, you can take Pale Master levels, which at higher levels gives you immunity to hold, paralyze, stun, and critical hits, lots of additional HP and AC, darkvision, the ability to summon undead as a spell-like ability, and a cool grafted undead arm.

Necros should also use acid attacks, at least in my opinion. ;)
