Okay, I'm on the second floor of the arcanist's tower and been wandering around for a while. Back and forth between the planes, and i'm getting tired of it.
All other places i've looked for help say, just wander around a bit til you get to the northeast corner or something. But i have not got there yet, and have gone past some places a few times.

So, simply put, is there a easy course to take to get on to the next level?

Well, if you want a (fairly) straight way through the shadow-teleporter level, then you should start by taking the eastern (east=right side of the map) teleporter on the first platform.

Then just jump into every next teleporter until you finally get to a huge platform in the north with a big stair on it... it's actually hard to miss if you go that way. I you take this path, there will be just -one- segment (and its in the shadow plane) where there are several teleporters that you can choose from... and there, too you have to take the eastmost one.

Note that the teleportings are -not- random. Every teleporter brings you to a specific spot.

Then go up the stairs to the new level.

Yes the trick is to have an idea of where you want to end up, because the layout of the portals and the shadow plane areas roughly matches up to the second level of the Arcanists Tower. The problem seems to be (I found) that sometimes there isn't a portal to the next platform.

To be honest I agree with you that it is a slightly annoying puzzle after a while, especially if you haven't got a clue where to start.
