To buy and sell in Arcanum

Hi:

I'm heavily into the game now, and am really enjoying playing. However, the most frustrating thing for me is gathering all of this stuff from everywhere - I don't mind collecting stuff in RPG's, as I am very used to maxing inventory and then selling stuff off.

The problems I have are:
- Knowing what to sell and what to keep.
- Getting someone to buy things! I am a mage, and I'm learning that since many traders don't want me in their shops, that tech-based items I can just drop (schematics, etc) since noone will buy them from me. It also seems that 'cursed' items have no buyers. Should I just stop collecting so much stuff?

Thanks again,

Mike

Selling

The biggest towns like Tarant, Caladon and Black Root have junk dealers who will buy everything including evil items. All town also have sundry dealers who will buy most things but not at the best price. If you a mage and have magic item to sell try the Magic armor shops in Tarant and Caladon. They don't buy everything but do buy somethings. The outlying shops give best prices for rings and jewelry.

Money is also available in selected locations throughout Arcanum. e.g A house in Tarant (Willoughsby house) that contains 3600 in gold inside a chest. But reach it through the sewer accessed where you get the task for recouvering a ring. Just continue to explore taking a left turn when you can and open a locked metal door. Inside are 3 arachnoides and one locked and trapped chest. The chest with the gold is up the ladder. Be quiet because a gaurd is in the next room.

More gold is available in a locked chest on the Isle of Dispair. You've probably seen it and it contains 1836 in gold.

Many creatures hold gold and weapons and armor and all sewers contain gold and items usually worth the effort.

If you need a couple of thousand soon go to the Lair of Bellerogram. There are piles of gold laying around and tough fighting. Repair is needed to do this site without loosing weapons or armor.

Be careful about overloading anyone because this game likes to penalize an overload by dropping DX or dexterity to 2. To avoid this do not go beyond Moderate weight.

Depending on the skills you wish to develop gold is not a major need for this game. Like you don't need to buy a boat if your willing to do more tasks that earn points. If you want to be a haggle master your spend a lot of time building up 50k in gold to buy your master and to me its not worth it.

Schematics, be careful one schematic is needed to make the key for the Iron Clan quest so instead of selling it or dropping it left click and execute it when you get the items. Without it you can't solve the Durins Truth quest.

Since you already have high willpower for your spell casting its worth considering Haggle. Master level is not required, only expert if you wish to be able to sell *almost* everything to anyone. Shops will still not buy null value items, but if you wanted to sell a clarington rifle to the herbologist, now you can. Flogging magic gear is a pain with magic shop keepers being very selective even about what magic items they'll buy so expert haggle saves the day.

Thanks, you guys! I *assumed* I was a master haggle, but I must have done it, not saved and had to reload ... ok, next time I'm in town ...

I have stumbled across various gold things, but since I am barred from ~50% of shops and was having a hard time in the ones I *could* get into, it was at least somewhat frustrating ... but I do have ~30,000 gold now. It is just being used to games like NWN where anyone buys anything, pretty much.
