Sound Glitch

Hi all, Just got PST and love it so far. But there seems to be a sound problem with the game. There is a loud, constant buzz, for lack of a better description. I can hear other sounds in the game perfectly fine, but the buzz is louder than any of them, which makes it quite annoying. I have tried messing with all of the in-game sound settings, but nothing makes the buzz go away. Please help! (I am using Windows XP SP2, I have the 2 CD version of PST, and have installed the "unofficial patch".)

PS: Sorry if this is a "noob question", I just got the game and figured this would be the best place to ask for help.

Is it kind of like a screeching sometimes?

No, the buzzing is much lower pitched than a screech. When it first starts, however, it is very high pitched and continues to get louder and louder. It stops just before it gets to be painful, then the pitch becomes much lower. I have not actually left the mortuary yet, so I don't know if leaving will solve the problem.

Sorry for the redundant question, but...

have you installed the official patch? Can't hurt; might help ;)

No, I am using the 2 CD version, which specifically says not to install the 1.1 patch.

Have you tried disabling EAX ingame?

What's your sound card?

Yes I have, it made no difference.

I am using a Creative Sound Blaster PCI512 currently...

Have you had any problems in other games? Your soundcard is ancient. You could try downloading the last drivers (from November 2001) for Windows XP here:

No, I haven't. The games I play really aren't that taxing on my sound card, so I rarely consider getting a new one.

Thanks for the link, I'll go download a new driver and tell you if that fixes the problem.
