newbie - death penalty

I realize that I am immortal and all, but is there a penalty for dying? if so what is it? I did search the forums and couldn't find an answer in a previous post. thanks.

Except in extreme cases, there is no penalty for dying.

The only effect is that there will be a few more Shadows in a certain spoilery place in the game the more you die (to a limited extent)... nothing to worry about. Die all you want.
