i'm in chapter 3, have the tome of boots, the bodak tooth, the gargoyle skull and a greater stoneskin spell. i'm at the many-starred place and have put the items in the wizards chest. this is my first attempt at creating something here (i've made a staff or two elsewhere in the past) and perhaps i'm missing something obvious but i'm doing what i've read on some of the threads (and did in similar situations in the past) which is to cast the spell on the chest. i get nothing. i can cast the spell on myself but not on the chest to make the boots. i can even cast other spells on the chest. any suggestions?

You need the regular stoneskin spell, not the 'Greater' version, to create the boots. If you don't have it, you're probably out of luck, cause you can't buy the scroll in chapter 3.

You could however buy a pair of Gargoyle boots from one of the merchants and then use one of its charges to create another one...

thanks for the reply. that's what i was wondering about, whether it was the regular vs. greater, but i thought 'nah, that would make no sense!'. odd that you can't get it in chapter 3 but that's where you find out how to make them. good info, on the latter bit too. i'll try that.
