Ice Temple

Hello Everyone!
It's my second play-through of IWD II, and I'm stuck in the Ice Temple. I decided to finish all ranks at Oria's game room (I'm not taking a single step until I'm done with that

). Do you have any useful advice how to defeat all of the opponents?
I managed to finish 3 ranks with my cleric. Summoning sometimes worked, sometimes didn't... - some of my summoned allies were taken away to another room, some of them remained, I couldn't find any logic in their disappearance, though.... Since this is not a very reliable method, I'd like to know how you defeated them? What character did you use? Is it possible to finish them all off with a single figther (with different weapons and enough healing potions equipped)?

Use lots of defensive spells, such as bless, barkskin, aid, anything like that you have available with the current experience your characters have. I don't know what wrong with your summons, I don't remember if mine left, or if i ever used any. I also had a druid who was in dire panther form, very effective I believe. Another character I had was a mage, he just cast simple spells as I recall, he and my cleric stood back, him with a crossbow, she with a bow, just so they would stay out of the fray. My ranger, fighter, paladin, and druid did most of the work. I found it fairly easy, but I have no idea what tanks you have.

Yeah, I was considering using my druid for the task, but I'm afraid she'll be too vulnerable, even in panther or bear form (not to mention that her most powerful spells don't work indoors

). May be strong, but has no resistances

What if an Efreeti comes with a fire shiled? (Oh, how much I hate them!!! Easy to defeat with a mage, but for a non-caster character they can do such a great damage).

Ah yes, the efreeti, I had forgotten about them, well, my druid wasn't alone she had my other three characters with them, have you tried ranged weapons? Or maybe try other types of potions, I'm not quite sure anymore what is available at this point in the game. Any types of buffing potions?

Your druid wasn't alone? I always play with the character who pulls the mode activator, the others are transported away to another room. How come you had your allies with you? Maybe at higher ranks they will be allowed to stay? (I'm at rank 4 now). That would make things much easier...

AAAAAAHH, shoot me and call me a goblin, hahaha!! I went rambling off into nothingness and forget we were talking about the ranks, my apologies, I usually used my drow ranger for that, but still with major buffing spells. Any summons I summoned after the opponent appeared stayed I believe, since I vaguely recall being able to call wolves. My druid though did quite alot of damage in panther form, but I had taken out the entire Ice Temple before I began the ranks game. Maybe I had more experience...? I also usually had equipment that help majorly with defense or other special abilities on almost all of my characters.

What a pity.. I was starting to hope that at higher ranks I'll be able to fight with the entire party ...
So, I'll try the druid, then. (BTW, I'm done with the temple, too). Maybe I should get her some fire/cold resistance potions... Do you know if Oswald is still there with the ship, now that I have finished off Shernical and the pass to the Ice Lakes is open? (I know I could just go and check it out for myself, but I 'd like to save the effort, if possible

)

Yes I apologize again for my stupidity, the brains don't work so well at 4:25 am, even for a moon elf.
Yes, Oswald is still there, he doesn't actually leave until after you beat the Ice Temple, when it's too late to go back anyway. And I forget what the little guy you saved from that Polar Wyrm earlier, outside of the Temple and down one of the little passage, has to sell.

First off, you are always alone, also at higher lvls.
Secondly, the reason why your summonings are being transported is because you installed a patch that does that. The only way you can complete the higher lvls is with highlvl summonings or so it is said, because you need to have at least lvl20-25 +- to complete all ranks. You stated this is your second time through but with the same party or a new one? If its a new party you will never be able to complete all ranks, their lvl will be to low.
Even if you are highlvl, the patch will transport your creatures out of the room most of the time, and i dont know if fighters can do the trick, i wish you good luck and keep me updated on your progress plz.

It's OK
Is it that early where you are??? That must be the other side of the Earth, then! (I'm in Europe). Offtopic.
I already forgot about that guy, so thanks for reminding me! I'll look for him and see what he has in store. I was wondering if I should come back to the temple later, but I'm not sure that's possible, and I don't want to miss the chance to fight myself through all ranks. I MUST do it! (rolling bloody eyes)

Yes, I'm on the east coast USA. Sunrise scheduled in about an hour and a half or so

.
And you can leave the Temple, even if you come back after resting you can set the game so that you start on the rank you left at. And yes, do keep posted on the progress.

Hi MJ! I have just spotted your post!
What patch...? I didn't install anything (nothing that I'm aware of, at least...) Well, I'm quite far from lvl 20 now... I think my guys are around 10-12. (Mage, cleric, druid, fighter, rouge, paladin). A new party in this game. Do you know if I'll be able to come back from the later stages? I'm afraid if I leave the area now, and continue my journey until I become 20-25 lvl, I won't be able to enter this place again...

Ok, I know this post isn't for me, but you can't actually CONTINUE past the Ice Temple without losing that part of the game, you can't go back. Do you perhaps have a stronger party you could import? And just play up to the Temple, just a suggestion, and a very trifling one indeed, but that's all i can think of at the moment...

The only way to complete the higher lvls is to play the game twice, so that the second time around you arrive in the tempel with a high enough lvl.
And about the patch, you need not have installed it seperately, what version of ID do you have on cd? if it is not 1.0 you prolly have the patch installed as well.

I do believe you can leave and come back later if you so desire. I have in the past. Mace of Disruption very cool indeed

I see some of you say that it's not possible to come back later, some say it is... Who's right?
But what if I really can't go back?

How on Earth am I supposed to complete that challenge without importing a stornger party, then? That's not fair...

Anyway, maybe I'll just pull myself together, take a deep sigh and start all over again with this party, so that I'll be stronger when I reach the Temple again.
(It must be fun to wipe the goblin fortress off the map in 15 minutes

)
At least I know that I can't count on coming back later (Sorry Patrick, I decided to believe that version, considering that more people are on that side. No offense!).
Thanks!

Yea, you can leave and go back, but if you beat the Temple and advance to the next town you can't reverse progress in the game to go back.

SPOILER
I know for a fact you can come back. Off hand I thinks its like up to chapter four or around the point where you enter the underdark at the Black Raven Monestary.
