I find my inventory always getting cluttered with stuff that i'm not sure I need. In particular, books and gems. Do I need to keep all of those common gems such as Amethyst, Flurospar, Aventurine, etc...? I have about 10 of each and I always get more. Also, are those very common blueish colored books of any importance. They take up too much space and I'm always getting more. They all seem to be about the history of things and background. Arey they necessary to keep or can i get rid of them, because I could use the extra space in my inventory.

Most gems can just be sold off, and don't worry - you can't sell plot items, so you will (should) not loose any importent. However, some gems are usable for crafting specifically items (for instance at the blacksmith, or when finding a Tome of something), but they aren't plot critical.

Blue-ish books can also just be sold off, and again - if it is important it will be a plot-item, and you shouldn't be able to sell it at all.
