What chapter and part of the NwN games (Original, SoU, HotU) is this in?
The more information you give at start, the easier it is for people to help. :) (although I remember most of NwN by heart, I still have some dark spots, and this name eludes me :D )

By the way - I've added a spoiler tag to your thread titel, to avoid people getting spoiled unless they want to. Please remember spoiler tags in the future (as mentioned in the thread: Please read BEFORE posting! Regarding spoilers. )

Otherwise - welcome to the forum, I hope you find it helpful :)

Oh sorry i wasn't aware that i had spoliers, but it is in chapter 2 of the original game. I thought maybe causei was playing with my roomate and he is the onje that talked to Jaxx so when i came by mysellf he wouldn't talk to me, but then i went back with him and he still wouldn't talk to be and says he is off!

Ahh - now I remember who he is.

The quests is to bring back one book (only one) from the Creator Race ruins. A Tome of the history of the ruins if I remember right.
Are you sure you haven't completed this quest? (you can check your journal) because if he says he is off to Waterdeep (a town that is not in the original game), then it would indicate that the quest is completed.

Edit: I just checked - if he is saying that he is off to Waterdeep, that means the quest is completed and reward (should) have been given.

Hmm - that is strange.
Have you patched your game fully? Might be a gamebug/glitch that has been corrected in a patch version.

Otherwise - I can't really think of anything you can do to complete it.

Does your journal recognize that you have found the right book? (the book should be called something with "Complete History of the Creator Ruins" if I remember right).

There are a few ways, depending on your character :)

You could kill Jax, and take the key from him :o Not something I'd advice though :)

You could steal it from him, if playing a pick-pocket.

Lastly - there is a way to spawn items into the game (proberly what you are looking for).

For this - you need to use the console. Confere with your manual on how to enter dm-commands/console commands into the game (usually it is the ~key that activates the console, but national keyboards can cause this to differ).

Then you need to enter the commands as following:
DebugMode 1 (this command is case sensitive, so remember large D and M)
dm_spawnitem m2q2jkey (this will spawn in the key under your mouse cursor, so remember not to place it over a wall or something)
DebugMode 0 (again - large D and M).

And volia - you can pick up the baracks key.

Note that you can also enter these commands by typing in your "chat-box", that is the box just above your quick-menu slots (where it by default is labled "Talk:").
The exception here is that you need to preface all commands with ##.
So if typeing there it would for instance be ##DebugMode 1 ... and so on.

Hope this helps.
