Skald kit worthless in ToB?

When examining the Enhanced Bard Song that will replace the Normal Bard Song, one wonders why you should ever pick the Skald kit.

From what level will you get the Enhanced Bard Song?

Is the Skald Song improved at all?

I was thinking something similar about the defensive spin ability of the blade kit... seems to have been totally negated. I have a bad feeling that bards are going to get short shrift in TOB.

BTW any word on further spell progression for bards? Will they ever see 7th levels spells and above? Probably not I imagine.

bards don't get above 6th lv spells.

i believe the enhanced bard song is a special ability, a skald could skip it and get the other abilities first.

why would defensive spin be negated?

Doesn't defensive spin improve AC by 1 per level (max -10AC), and keep you rooted to the spot. This enhanced bard song ability gives you a similar AC boost (if your AC is at or near 0) and a whole host of other benefit eg magic res for you and party.

The only remaining benefit of defensive spin is that (I think) you can cast spells during the spin)...

I guess I'm just bitter about the initial bard song song having undescribed effects and the new ability kicking ass

Seems like Bards are out of business in ToB.

However...

The Bardsong effects stay for a couple of seconds after the Bard stops playing. It's possible to cast spells or attack in between without the effects ever letting up. :)
